This was, apparently, accidentally uploaded by Sega to their update server at some point last year. At which point it was downloaded, and quickly realised it would run on PC hardware. It takes a bit of work but apparently you can get it to work properly.

Did any one manage to snag it? it's long gone from Sega's site.

Hey all I managed to find this as well as all of the bits needed to run it and a launcher etc. If any one is interested I will do a quick write up.

Cheers.

I'd be interested! I would like to get it up and running myself.

OK I will try and get this right. First of all you need to visit this site, as it shows you where to get it.

http://www.emuline.org/topic/1190-arcad ... -r-system/

You will need to sign up, and it's French so you may need to translate.You need to download the file - SEGA_DAYTONA_UPDATE_171206 and will need Winrar to unpack it.

OK, once you have the set up file run the install. Install it to the root of a drive, under Sega. So for example, C:SEGA. Once it installs you will have your Sega folder, as well as some inside it. Look for the one called "Update" (if it is not Daytona) and if necessary rename the folder called "Update" to "Daytona".

Then you need to go into the SEGA folder DIR and then create two new folders. Name one GameData and name the other ShellData. It needs to look like this.

Image

OK, now we need to create some INI files. I don't know if you can make them with a text file, as I simply copied one from somewhere else (FO4 IIRC) and then emptied and renamed it. In the ShellData folder you need an INI called ShellData.ini I will start with that one. In that needs to be this -

[Credit]
Freeplay = 1

[Network]
CabinetID = 1
NumCabinets = 1

Which is kinda self explanatory (puts it in Freeplay, single cab etc). OK, now go into the GameData folder and create a INI called config.ini . In that one put the following.

[Version]
Version=011217

[OpenCV]
ENABLE_CAPTURE = 1
ENABLE_TEST_BILLBOARD = 0
CAPTURE_FPS = 20

OK so you can play with the settings if you like, but if you cock it up just over write it with the original. Then you need to install a dongle driver on your PC. It doesn't look for a dongle, but it does look for a DLL file associated with a dongle. The file to install for that is called dk2wn3264_7.47.0.73. It can be obtained from the site I listed above. It will install the dongle driver, and the critical D2K.DLL file so that the game will run. You can get that here.

https://www.des.co.uk/support.html

OK, the next thing to do is change the compatabilty settings for two EXE files. The first one you need to do is the Daytona.EXE. I set mine to Windows 8, IIRC. Then you need to go into the Shell folder and find Shell.exe. Change that to Win 8 also (it seems Sega used some iteration of Win 8 for the arcade machine).

Then, whilst in the Shell folder run Shell.exe. Alt and Tab will close it when it is finished. Then download "Stupid Invaders" patch, you can get that here.

https://mega.nz/#!mcEViBBQ!bKObxEPRB7zH ... brZlaHvu6o

You then need to install the controls file. It is called Daytona3Controls but I can not for the life of me remember where I got it (I didn't BM it it seems). I have it if you get stuck, but Google should find it.

Then you need to install the launcher. Use the one called DaytonaLaunch3.3(patched).You can get that from the first site (French one) but again I have it if you are stuck. This is very important, because otherwise there is no way to quit out of the game unless you CTRL ALT DEL and force stop it. The launcher allows you to just press Escape and exit.

Personal notes.

I did some research into needed spec but came up empty. I did, however, see it running on a RX 360? something like that (not a very high end GPU). It was running at 60hz. The game likes to run at 1080p it would seem, not sure if it scales.
The controls are a bit waffy. IDK if you have ever played Daytona on the Dreamcast? well it's like that over again. I think it is because the controller is too sharp, and it was designed to be ran on a wheel. The launcher does improve it a bit though, and it's certainly more than playable (if a little whacky at times).

You can change the difficulty, length (so laps) and etc in the config files. You can also up the resolution forcibly, but I had odd results. Oh, and you can turn anti alias (MSAA, IIRC) on and off using 1/0.

Here is a video of my first "raw" launch (no controls or launcher or full screen)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4z6lyY1LJnc

One thing I will say is it's very, very pretty. It's like Sega land in glorious hi res. It's also bloody good fun too.

If my guide is a little poo then you can use this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtHas0n5nV0

Which I sorta half used, then used another one (and then combined three together for the above :) )

Enjoy !

EDIT. To add.

If you exit the game and get a sound loop like I do (I am using Asus soundcards, known for it) then go to Device Manager, disable the audio device and then re-enable it. That will stop the sound loop.

Edit 2. OK had a session on this earlier. I forgot to list the controls ! and (possibly) some oddities.

Right anny is gas.
Left anny is brake.
D pad does the views.
Steering is obs the left stick.
Not sure on gears, not tried manual yet (though oddly looking at videos the manual car seems to handle better?)

If you can not move left or right on the menu screens with the pad try using the arrow keys on the keyboard. Some have had issues with this.
