Can anybody explain something that I keep spotting on numerous reviews (notably on amazon, but I have seen it on other sites where potential customers can ask questions to be answered by others). Here is one example, but I have seen hundreds of similar:

So, potential customer asks a question.

I have seen answers such as:
'sorry, I don't own this product'
'I don't know'
'Sorry, I haven't tried this?'
'I don't know, it's still in its box'

Why would you answer if you have no clue? Do people get paid for these completely empty answers? I assume there has to be some benefit as otherwise I cannot fathom it.

You get an email asking if you can answer the question. Obviously some people just can't fathom that they could just not answer if they don't have the knowledge. I suspect it's mostly men.

Don't be silly, men never admit they don't have the knowledge.

Because you're a loser with no social skills and have been hounded off Facebook, Twitter, etc. by trolls but have to get your internet fix somehow.

Or, to put it another way, I have never done this, so I don't know, I'm afraid.

I imagine it's just the way a lot of people are. Almost everything allows you to comment on something these days. And here is something asking you to comment on something. It's practically your duty to respond.

I'm surprised about how nice and polite these empty answers are. I thought the whole point of the Internet was to overreact about everything.

Perhaps it should be referred to as Fairying rather than Trolling.
