New video shows Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions in action on PS4
The much-loved shoot ‘em up series makes its debut on PlayStation later this year

The storied Geometry Wars series is set to make its long-awaited return (and its PlayStation debut) this Autumn as Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions, released under the reawakened Sierra brand.

It’s not easy to live up to the Geometry Wars pedigree, but a recent hands-on run of one of the game’s earlier stages was all the assurance I needed that the spirit of Geometry Wars is thriving, guided by the neon, wireframe hands of Lucid Games: a studio founded by former Bizarre Creations staffers.

“Geometry Wars” has never been more apt as a title, featuring three-dimensional geometric battlefields that bend and flex under the force of your shape-shattering armaments. The level I played was shaped like a peanut: two spheres connected by a flared, narrow bridge. Fans of Geometry Wars 1 and 2 may find themselves instinctively looking for corners to lead errant enemies into to set up high-scoring opportunities, but the continuous nature of Dimensions’ playfields means veterans will need to readjust their habits accordingly.

We recently spoke with Peter Cesario, Producer of Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions about bringing the beloved series to PlayStation for the first time, what kinds of new weapons players can get their hands on, and combining its classic gameplay with more modern ideas. Check out the video above.

Looks like Space Giraffe. On acid.

That's not a sentence I ever thought I'd type.

Just started Resogun in earnest, so this can wait until it's in a sale or on PS+. Also reviews aren't out yet, which isn't a good sign.

I agree the no (or very limited) reviews could be a bad sign - I also dont like the regional pricing stuff they are doing (its £14 here but $15 in the US)

There is a thread for the game on Neogaf here :

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=939193

And this is one of the posts on there - reading this and the comments about playing Pacifism on here are what got me to bite

Quote:
Well I'll give you my impressions from what I've played so far.

Buttery Smooth 60fps
Game looks visually better than the others. The people who were saying otherwise need their eyes checked or a better monitor/tv
Controls like Geometry Wars. Plays like Geometry Wars. Is Geometry Wars.
Seeing the pre spawn shadow of enemies is less distracting than I thought, which is good. You ignore it once things get hectic.
I'm a little 50/50 with new black hole look. It's cool looking but can be hard to see the middle of it due to it's new effects.
Repulsars can actually be killed easier than the cheap ones from Geo Wars 2 that had a tiny weak spot.
The remixes. Oh god the remixes. They are sooo good.
All the classic modes that returned play exactly how they did in Geo Wars 2.
Camera angels in classic mode aren't locked in place. They do angel at times but it's reeeally minimum and actually do more of making it seem neat than "oh god i can't focus. You'll forget about it immediately.
Adventure mode is fun. Levels have interesting twists and catches to them. Even adds more enemies to the mix. Makes it seem more diverse like Geo Wars Galaxies did.
Overall fun game. Officially taken me away from Resongun.

There only seems to be 2 reviews out so far

Destructoid gave it 10/10 http://www.destructoid.com/review-geome ... 4223.phtml
Polygon gave it 8/10 http://www.polygon.com/2014/11/25/72793 ... ox-one-PS4

Still enjoying Resogun, Plants Vs Zombies and Battlefield 4.
I'm 75% through the story on Destiny and haven't touched the other modes.
COD AW is good fun, and I've got Elite in a few weeks plus Far Cry 4 coming for Christmas.

There just aren't enough days off work to fit it all in.

That's a press-hold-move-release. I posit that the time spent doing so is longer that triple-tapping '.'

I doubt that's true. Is that true?

(Note: it doesn't count "Grim…" properly, but it shouldn't.

That's what I meant. Both Grim... and Grim… look the same at first glance. But only one of them will get counted, which can be confusing.
Fucking up the counter was the wrong term. More that it can behave logically correctly, but behaviourally unexpectedly...

So getting this back on topic - grabbed and played a few games last night - the 'classic' mode stuff is just as good as it ever was , I spent hours in pacifism but only scored around 9.5 million which is a fraction of my 360 score.

The scoreboard integration with friends list is there as before so you see your best / your closest friends score and gives you targets as you go through each game , and for the new adventure mode it begins and starts each level with the leaderboard.

Actually it works fine as long as everyone does it the same. Note how in the last game the counter was completely correctly counting votes for :hat:

Barely scratched the surface of this, but first impressions are - it's fantastic.

Only Zaphod on the leaderboards so far, there'll hopefully be a few more by the weekend.

I'll be getting it on the 360 so you won't see me I'm afraid.... But this does mean that there's less chance of my scores being beaten!

The wife is out on Friday night so I'm planning on spending the entire evening doing nothing else but play this.

Pacifism is definitely tougher. The collision detection feels less generous, so you can't seem to slip through those really narrow gaps as easily. I also have the impression there are more gates and sooner, but that might be my imagination, as I haven't played GW2 for ages.

Still, managed to beat your 9 million after ten minutes or so...

I got a score of around 7 million in about 10 minutes , then went off and played other stuff and got the 9 million score - then played over an hour and my top was around 5 million :-)

I like the 'quicker restart' button but it needs to be even quicker than that !

Started playing the Steam version last night. Seems brilliant so far! I haven't set any decent scores, but do add me as a friend so I'll have some to aim for. :)

(Steam name is Klatrymadon, I think.)

Bugger. I'll try and squeeze in another go later on - I'm guessing you slaughtered mine, rather than just beating it. All part of the fun...

Sorry again Mr C. Think I've done even more damage to your scores. On one of the levels I was 74th on the global leaderboard. It's bloody addictive this game. 30 minutes quick okay turned into 2 hours.

Bloody hell, it's the MAME challenge all over again. A bunch of old gits squinting to see the screen, while a young lean, mean cyborg casually beats everyone playing one-handed while eating his dinner with the other. Didn't you say you had too many games to play? :DD

OK, edit my post to read "middle-aged lean, mean cyborg". Definitely a cyborg, though, albeit one with haemorrhoids and a spot of gout now and then.
