My mum has received an email, saying "this is the second email to you -my mums name- about your relative -someone else's name (shared last name)-, please reply.
It's from an address

Is there anything instantly dodgy about this? Anyone know anything about this email address or email account provider?

Edited for dodgy auto correct

Is that it, or do they say anything else in the e-mail.

My immediate reaction is to ignore it.

Would be fairly easy to automate that for spamming.

Is the other name that of a known person?

That sounds very phishy to me. Lists of names and email addresses can't be difficult to get hold of, so that the author knew your mothers name doesn't mean it's legit at all. Is the relative name a real one?

Well, it's an empty domain with no content behind it, which is immediately dodgy.

Domain is registered to these people:

I'd ignore it.

Also, that email address has no sort of online presence tied to it when I run it through our "magic stuff" (no name, twitter account, location, etc).

The fact that it says it's the second email when in fact it's not immediately means it's pish spam (aside from all the other reasons others have stated); it's a standard technique to make people think they've missed an original email and this one is now OMG OVERDUE IMPORTANT!

Excellent than you, I though to guys could help :) my mum received a letter a long time ago about a relative and felt like this might be related but I thought it was dodgy based on the weird email address not showing anything in a cursory google search. It was also addressed to her married name and the 'relatives' last name is also her married name which seems unlikely.

The email didn't say anything other than what I quoted.

You're always overzealous when it comes to your back "button".

There is? I thought our admin turned that off as he wasn't good enough to make it work on OSX?

It's not that magic if I plug you into it. It found your name, gender, and what looks like an old address in NW10.

Mrs Grim... uses 'muggle' to describe the way I talk about people that can't work computers.
