I just read in the GTA V thread DavPaz asking Cookie if he was old enough to play yet, and it made me think that most of us probably had access to age restricted media from far younger than the specified age.

Pornography aside, which used to grow on bushes, what's the youngest you can remember having access to something age-restricted?

For me I think it was being around 7 or 8 years old and watching a VHS copy of 3 episodes of series 3 of Red Dwarf that my Dad owned (the one with Polymorph on it). Not only was that a 15 certificate, but it also prompted me asking my Dad why C.L.I.T.O.R.I.S was funny, and what one is.

I stayed at my aunties house and watched horror films with my brother. I think he was about 4/5 and I would have been 7/8

One of them really scared him, and he had nightmares for ages after that.

I recall watching Rambo when it came out on VHS (which I imagine was about when I was 9 or 10) and after that we were pretty much allowed to watch anything from the video shop (barring porn)

My parents were pretty easy going about movies as long as we watched them as a family. I remember Aliens scaring the shit out of me (the part where the Alien's fingers wrap around the door during the first retreat) in about 1988 and my Dad laughing at me. Which seems cruel :)

As for video games... it wasn't really an issue in the dark days of 8-bit.

My mother used to watch horror movies all the time and she asked me to hide every time something scary came up. Obviously being a kid, I would look through and that's how I watched the shining when I was six years old. I became fearful of corridors because of that.

Only when I was 19 did I watched it again, and it partially cured my phobia.

I remember watching that same Red Dwarf tape and not understanding that word either. On the same tape there was also 'virginity' which I didn't get either.

Is there a place that archives info about when movies were first shown on UK TV? I'd be curious to know when that Aliens experience happened.

I saw the beginning of An American Werewolf in London when I was about six.

I was scared of werewolves for about ten years after that.

Presumably now that you've met a few in real life you realise it was just a silly childish fear?

Actually, the whole shadow rabbit sequence at the start still creeps me out. If it didn't have the comedy bird, it wouldn't be suitable for kids at all.

I think I was 13 when I first started watching 15s and 18s. I mainly watched martial arts films as they are ace.

I'm a bit slack with the Grimlet. He's played Dark Souls and watched Avengers Assemble. He doesn't appear to be mentally disturbed yet.

I remember watching The Exteminator when I wag in junior 3 (?)

Never been able to hang by a chain over a mincing machine since then.

Remember watching Poltergeist as a kid at my uncles house (out in the sticks) and that shit me up.

Never been able to be pulled through a TV to the light ever since.

My 4 year old loves super hero films, and she loved Avengers (she's watched all of the Marvel Cinematic universe films) and lots of other ones too.

I saw some 8 year old swearing like soliders yesterday . I blame games and telly and parents and stuff. I can't remember being so foul mouthed as a wee sprite but then again maybe I was, I dunno.

They all are. That's why everything that comes out their mouths is funny, terrifying or just pain weird :)
