My brother, his wife and kids and my parents where shopping in this mall 4 weeks ago on holiday

Just shows how close you can come to things.

My brother told me tonight he will never leave the UK for a holiday again

Kenya has been on the 'avoid unnecessary travel' list for a while, hasn't it? Crazy to holiday there.

I don't know, I don't think you should ever go to such places with your eyes wide shut, but to give up entirely is to give in. Statistically over the last decade you're massively in the clear. Consider the chances of being killed in a pub bombing going drinking in Birmingham in the 70's for example. Horrible stuff but with only 39 dead... more were killed in the London bombings. Or in Oslo. Or Virginia Tech. Or New York. Or Moscow. Or Luxor. Or Bali. Or the New Zealand earthquake in Christchurch...

Parts of it to be avoided, not including Nairobi apparently.

There are stats, and then there is context.

Virginia Tech and Christchurch are isolated events. Nobody is going to massacre people in Norway again any time soon. Kenya have been warned for some time by Al-Shabab that they were going to be attacked for their involvement in Somalia. So that's more like New York - the information was there in both cases - but America has miles better security than Kenya.

Admittedly, Kenya will up the security now.

I don't think it's ever been off it. Kenya is still one of the few bits of Africa I'd happily go back to though.
