I have a hard drive from my Amiga that is a little bit dicky. It has a read error on it somewhere so I can't make a hardfile out of it.

WinUAE recognises it but won't fully boot from it into workbench. I can't figure out how to get some working copy of Workbench in WinUAE where I can make a hard file...

I can't figure out how to access it from Amiga Forever either.

Any suggestions?

Not sure. My experience of Amiga HD's is limited to Compact Flash cards.

Sounds like you need a copy of Workbench running then mount the harddrive in WinUAE to copy off what you need. I've never tried it but it should be feasible.

Workbench should be available from ('your local software shop' - Ed)

OR plug it into a real Amiga, boot Workbench from floppy and then see what you can see.

The whole purpose of this is to get the files onto my pc. I'm struggling to figure a way of booting workbench and mounting the hard drive and creating another virtual hard drive on my pc...

I'm sure I'll get there eventually...

As I recall, I was able to read an Amiga Compact Flash on my Mac. Don't have the CF adaptor to hand at the moment to confirm that. If so it might that mean a Mac could read an Amiga hard drive or do CD cards use a different file system?

From an Amiga forum:

Quote:
Windows XP and the "Amiga Forever" Emulation Bundle, I connected the Amiga HDD as an external USB drive and "mounted" the Amiga HDD before starting the emulation. In the Amiga environment, I copied the whole drive to the other drive which the emulation booted from (which is simply a directory on the Windows partition...).

And so I had all my old invaluable Amiga files on the Windows partition

Thus far Amiga Forever hasn't been able to see this hard drive which is usb currently. I've just been able to see it by loading the Workbench 3.1 from Amiga Forever in WinUAE. Now need to make a new hard disk file... unless I get Amiga Forever to view it somehow.

Ooh I've managed to get WinUAE to boot the Amiga hard drive. Yay! Now to try and find a way to transfer stuff...

You can mount any Windows folder as a hard drive in UAE. That should let you copy files from one to the other.
