I am in a room with 16 numbered buttons, is it a lift?
Are we to assume that these correspond in some way to 16 people?

Nice assumption. Maybe the buttons that we press mean that we're voting someone off? Or giving them powers?

I don't know.. Has anyone asked to press a button yet? I have.

I was going to suggest that it may be a idea to avoid the buttons, but if people have already started mashing them then that idea is made invalid.

I haven't pressed any other than the intercom to talk to everyone.

Seems like a solid assumption that each number corresponds to a room/player.

Are we going to share with each other which numbers we are pressing? may give us a lot more information to go on in the days to come.

We should all agree to press the same button to see what the buttons do, but it requires everyone agreeing.

Presumably only some people's buttons are actually wired up to do anything, so if everyone hit the same button, you'd have no idea whose pressing actually did it. If there was any observable effect at all.

What makes you presume that? I've got no more information than there are 16 buttons.

Now I'm suspicious that my suggestion of a joint enterprise to figure out the buttons has been dismissed without a proper explanation.

Maybe we should all commit to pressing the others?

I'd venture that mpeople would unwilling to reveal which buttons they had pressed, lest there were negative effects arising from said pressing.

Also, lying about which button you had pressed could be dangerous dependant upon the outcomes.

Of course, the best thing for the group would be for all of us to agree to press a single (different) button each, but that would be like herding cats.

If we all press 3 or 16 now then we'll have at least some focused result to weigh up on the next day rather than mashing all the buttons and (potentially) getting a variety of results that are difficult to interpret.

Not dismissing a joint enterprise, dismissing the idea of everyone pressing the same button. For example, we all press button #3, and you die. What have we learned? #3 referred to you, and somebody had the power to kill him. Knowing you were #3 is now useless, because you're dead, and we've got no idea whether one specific person pressing the button did it, or whether anyone pressing that button did it, or whether it needed a certain number of people pressing the button to do it.

No! The same button!

The only benefit of different buttons would be for a person or group to mask their own selfish intentions.

You'd know that the buttons correspond with players for a start.

If that was true, and then everyone pressed a different button we'd all be wiped out in one night.

Only a Diabolical mind could surely conceive of such a twisted game (not sure if that is the right word? Would say prison, but I know I have done no wrong.) as this, therefore the buttons could do any number of diabolical things. Possibly if the correct sequence is typed in we may all have Glee piped into our 'room'...*shudder*

I am very wary of pressing the buttons.

How? If everyone presses the same button* and something happens to someone, how does that tell us anything other than something can happen to people?

*something that can not happen at this stage due to at least 2 people having already pressed at least 2 different buttons
