"Winter's coming" said Ned Stark, quite a lot. It turned into his catchphrase (Thankfully, because the alternative was "Cut their heads off yourself, that's right proper is that"). He was worried as where he lives, winter can last for years. The frozen, impenetrable, cold, smothering of any form of joy or happiness. Which is pretty much what this stage of January feels like? The hangover from 2012. The remorse, the shame. You've spent all your pay over Christmas and new year, had to return back to the office after a fortnight of getting up late and drinking too much. When the alarm goes off you have to drag yourself up and into the shower. This first proper week back has been hell. I know. But, it is almost over and payday is around the corner. As is winter proper. Ned Stark would squint into the middle distance and look brooding if faced with news like this before offering poorly written parenting advice. I don't think it will affect me too much, as I am a hardened northern person, but those of you living in more southern climes might find food running short, looting and riots occurring. Or, as it is more colloquially known, everyday life in Stretford. I'll be able to get to work; all I have to do is walk for half an hour and not worry about using the car. Other transport will suffer, gridlock and late trains. If it gets right proper cold the canal might freeze which would be awesome to see, I think, but not so great for getting anywhere on a boat. So, do not forget Grim...'s advice and stay safe and warm.

Anyways, what have we all been doing this week? I have been playing Far Cry Three. It's wonderful. I really like the "I quite fancy doing this" element of it: I can ignore the missions and walk around the countryside setting fire to wildlife and people, climb towers and attack bases. The ability to sneak into areas and poke bears with a stick to enrage them so they attack other people is really good fun, and hilarious when they attack you. The vehicles are quite fun to use and the descriptions in the handbook are amusing. It is a game which I love, and is pretty, too. I've been reading a book called "Blood Meridian" by Cormac McCarthy. It's very good, set in the western half of America during frontier times. I've also read Duff MacKagan's Book "It's so easy (and other lies)" which was OK. He basically drank a lot and took drugs then got better. I'd buy the former and rent the latter. Winter training week one has gone very well: I've successfully completed 5 rest days so far and located my shoes which need cleats attaching. And pedals attaching to the bike.
It is also a mere 32 weeks until I get married, which is terrifying. Really terrifying. Apparently, one can write one's own stuff to say ("Vows" she says, "vows"), so I'll be cribbing from Bryan Adams's back catalogue to see if anyone notices. That is about as much input as I have into this particular project. But enough about my wonderul life, what's the real meat on the bones of this BeeXWeex?

Blood Meridian is indeed a super-hyper-awesome-best book. Funnily enough it's the only book I've ever read twice.
