Not that harsh? I thought they weren't allowed to move off the back wheel until the line, she is very much alongside at that point.

Nah.
Quote:
Each rider must complete one lap each. The leading rider shall lead the first lap and move towards the outside of the track and the second rider shall complete the second lap on their own.

A team shall be relegated to the last place if any of the following infringements occur.

If a rider draws away by more than 15 metres before the end of the lap that she is to lead or
if a rider does not draw away by more than 15 metres after the end of the lap that she was supposed to lead or
if one rider pushes another.
Both GB & China didnae lead a complete lap because the second rider passed too early, apparently. The commissars are allowed to use their discretion, that one was a bit of a jobsworth though.

For reference, here's GB. Varnish has obviously sacked it off too early as she's up out of her tuck :/

Ah yes, he lived in Germany for 17 years, and is only 19 now. So very much not his first language, as shown by him answering, "Did you pull a fast one?" with "Yes, I tried to go off as fast as possible".

That's the sort of pro-establishment english propaganda that has kept kernow under its imperialist jackboot heel for so long.

I saw a woman walking through St. Pancras with a gold medal on on Wednesday.

I have no idea who she was, though.

On the way home from limpic park. It's all quite nice, but there's a lot of walking involved and not much in between. Like Glastonbury but tarmacced.

No ticket recycling today so after our event (Team GB women being schooled by Angolans at handball) we could only bumble about the park.

Watched the gold medal in the rowing on the BA park screen at which point it cunted down like a ranting fuckwit. On way back home to change and hit the Heath for the rest of the day. Curio, take note.

Weather permitting, tomorrow I might be interested in the Heath.

Though given that my bloody child won't stay still, I'll barely see you.

The Guardian blog today had a good description of it. Essentially, it may be that he thought there was a mech fault, so fell off. This is apparently acceptable in cycling, and considered normal.

As he was brought up in Germany, his English is going to be better than to claim something was lost in translation.

He also said (my bolding): "We were saying if we have a bad start we need to crash to get a restart. I just crashed, I did it on purpose to get a restart, just to have the fastest ride. I did it. So it was all planned, really."

That statment vexes me, as does the 'clarification' afterwards. it smacks of being a cocky little kid. And isn't terribly gentelmanly.

Sort of. The only numbers I've found is something between £6.5-10m a year for the entire team.

For perspective, the Germans paid £8m for a single horse in the equestrian. The wages for a top player in the Premiership.

As we have the 6th largest economy in the world and the 22nd largest country by population, as long as we finish above that, then we're doing well imo.

Silver in the Judo. Silly yank

Man, did you see that tournament? Gemma Gibbons was the underdog for every one of her matches. She played a slightly underdog role in one or two of them - getting a slight lead and getting super conservative, but oh how it worked. A couple of nice ippons too (the one in the... quarters?... was an amazing bit of drama). The final was a taste of her own medicine. Kayla Harrison got the lead, and was just too smart and strong for Gemma to take it. The fact she got a silver was fantastic, and the Americans never usually win judo gold, so fair play.

impressive rowing tally for GB there!

4 golds
2 silvers
3 bronze

That's 2 more golds and 3 more medals than 4 years ago!

I know it seems a bit obvious, but it is good to see that the sports which invested in, are the sports which we are good in. I guess also though, that some sports have an inherent cost which is much greater than others, judo must cost less than cycling as those bikes are more expensive than a mat.
