I like to think they're all listening to whalesong on those headphones as they walk out.

Is anyone else watching on Freeview HD? Am I getting all of the channels or do I need to retune? If I press the red button on BBC's HD channels I get three HD options - 1HD, BBCHD and 301HD. Then there's 302 which is just SD and BBC3 is showing stuff as well. Is that the lot?

I didn't see but it's likely! Apparently a British tennis player was practising on an adjacent court to Bill the other day... Not sure if he's competing, mind.

WTF, I thought you were watching the beach volleyball on channel 17 earlier?

Anyway, table tennis is amazing. When you watch it on television there's a tiny table in the middle of the screen and a big massive arena all the way round the outside. So comical.

I was watching it on the PC. You get everything on the BBC Sport site, but in rubbish SD.

Embarrassing amounts of empty seats at the women's football, gymnastics, and swimming, it would appear.

Yup! They should open everything to general sale if your ticket hasn't been scanned in a certain amount of time before the event. Also bearing in mind that today is Saturday! What's it gonna look like on a Monday afternoon?

In other news, GB v Australia womens basketball starting now!

After returning to civilization after a week (I was forced to watch the opening ceremony in STANDARD DEFINITION) I can confirm that the cable coverage is also fully comprehensive and fully HD. Sorry, jahonney.

Oh bugger off! Stupid landlady!

Collymore agrees with my idea: https://twitter.com/stancollymore/statu ... 9110031360

Although 90 minutes is probably a bit much. Plus the idea leaves little room for people who are just late.

Watching the women's basketball has reminded of a thing that annoys me, namely referring to teams in the singular. Example: "Australia isn't getting the possession it needs".

Bothers.

Would do. I've never heard them use the singular, but it's categorically wrong.

The captain of the Aussie female basketball team is the daughter of my wife's work colleague. She's the tall one who scored the first basket.

The track is a thing of beauty. Are they hanging onto it after this is all by with or bulldozing it?

Sabre fencing is the worst sport I've seen. It's all over in 2 minutes and each round is about 2 seconds long. It's just 2 guys lunging at each other without regard for their own 'safety', hoping to get the hit in first.

Great finish, too. If you ignore the abject failure of the BBC to actually provide any commentary or interviews following the end of the race.
