The theme of "Shepherding in the next generation" totally ruined there by wheeling out McCartney once again.

It is to make overseas tourists watching it on TV see it and decide to come to the UK on their next holiday.

Fuck that guy. Fuck him.

Technically it was pretty much flawless, too. About the only things that went obviously wrong were the twat drummer dropping his stick and McCartney deciding that he wasn't going to mime, actually.

Now I get to compile 6,500 video rating things*. Jealous?

Just a bit weird that he'd be doing the last leg of the torch relay. Unless Kern meant Doctor Who, of course.

Well yes, but the nurses were fighting too and helping out and protecting the kids from the literature-based villains.

But seriously, the message you were supposed to take from it was very, very obviously that the NHS is awesome.

That was amazing. That was the best opening anything I have ever seen!

Tory scum makes BBC News website. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19025518

Wikipedia updates the page on the horrible scum.

Quote:
Twitter controversy

During the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics of the 2012 Olympic Games, taking place in London, Burley caused a stir on Twitter by denouncing the content of the ceremony as
"...leftie multicultural crap. Bring back Red Arrows, Shakespeare and the Stones."
Burley went on to suggest that it was
"the most leftie opening ceremony I have ever seen - more than Beijing, the capital of a Communist state." [11]
Downing Street sources swiftly sought to distance themselves from Burley's comments.[12] Criticism of Burley's remarks by fellow parliamentarians and celebrities followed, including from former Deputy Prime Minister Lord Prescott, who wrote: "That opening ceremony made me proud to be British. Your tweet made me angry that you are too." Further calls for and predictions of his resignation on Twitter fuelled speculation that Prime Minister David Cameron would either advise him to stand down or withdraw the Conservative whip. No formal statement has yet been issued. [13] Subsequently, Burley attempted to row back on his remarks, tweeting:
"Seems my tweet has been misunderstood. I was talking about the way it was handled in the show, not multiculturalism itself."
Burley's attempt to clarify his remarks was met with incredulity by many on Twitter.

Slightly bemused waking up and seeing the tweets of people who watched the American coverage at how many were criticising the way the torch was lit and those who were chosen to light it, seemingly because it wasn't someone 'famous' enough.

I'd gone to bed after the procession and have just watched it. It was beautiful.

Didn't see macca. Was it as bad as it would appear due to all the tweets?

For some reason he started singing out of time with the prerecorded version of his voice, then the whole song just sounded out of time. I'm not sure how much of that was due to the acoustics in the stadium, though.

Oh dear. Was he in tune at least? I'm not really a fan of McCartney, but it seems to have gained a lot of attention. I'm glad I didn't see it to dampen the overall impression of excellence I had. I thought it was amazing.

I'm not sure he did have a pre recorded version playing. I thought that the TV feed or stadium acoustics had a delay on them as the rest of the band (and Macca himself) didn't seem to notice the delay.
