Be Excellent To Each Other

The news was first given on Twitter, but its now been press released. The game was first unveiled in Famitsu a couple of weeks back.

“Our exciting partnership with Kadokawa Games allows us to try something new by bringing a very unique game like Lollipop Chainsaw to Western markets,” said WBIE head Martin Tremblay.

“We are looking forward to partnering with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on our first entry into the HD console market,” added Kadokawa Games president, Yoshimi Yasuda. Kadokawa will publish the game in Japan.

The title’s story will be penned by James Gunn of Dawn of the Dead fame, with Grasshopper chief Suda 51 and composer Akira Yamaoka also helping out.

As you play through the game as zombie hunter Juliet, who is apparently in a long line of zombie hunters, zombies have invaded her school, San Romero High. Chainsaw will have a poppy feeling to it. It’ll release here next year.

It’s Grasshopper’s first big title since the release of Shadows of the Damned, published by EA Partners. The game did critically well, but lacked in sales.

Lollipop Chainsaw (ロリポップチェーンソー?) is an action video game being developed by Grasshopper Manufacture for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles. It focuses on Juliet Starling, a cheerleader fighting zombies in a fictional California high school. Grasshopper CEO Suda51 will serve as creative director for the game.

Story

Lollipop Chainsaw focuses on zombie hunter and cheerleader Juliet Starling, who, along with members of her family and her boyfriend, a disembodied head, fight hordes of zombies in San Romero High School, where Starling formerly cheered. The enemy zombies are led by "a group of zombie rock and roll lords".

Gameplay

It has not been officially stated what type of game Lollipop Chainsaw is, but it appears to be a hack and slash akin to Suda's No More Heroes games. In the game, Juliet's main weapon will be her chainsaw, but she will also be able to use her acrobatic skills to kill zombies. When the player completes certain tasks in the game, Juliet's chainsaw will be upgraded. Suda has also said that part of the gameplay "might involve sound".

No excuse for a full-priced single player only game having no New Game+/replayability features in this day and age.

I would far rather they put more into the game itself than offered additional functionality in a second play through. See Dead Rising being shitty shitty rubbishness.

I hope it doesn't last that long though cause I reckon I'll soon get tired of it. It's not even as memorably stupid as No More Heroes.
