No, not a genre as such, but an experience. One that real manly men gamers have tried at least a couple of times in their lives. ;)

True, it's how I learned to code (which probably explains why i'm so shit at it...)

Hey, respect for actually being able to code in some capacity. Always wanted to do that myself. Probably too late now (and too expensive to access a teaching course).

Back. Boo urns. Italy awesome place, the people are very nice despite the bluster, their bus service is, as you might expect, not so good.

In many ways it is. It's a whole area of gaming and I don't know how you define it other than a genre.

It's not like the difference between tape and disk. You have to type the game in, you have to debug it, and the games themselves were very different from commercial releases. It's a whole area in itself and certainly represents a whole type of gaming. Perhaps not genre, but I can't think of a better term.

Rubbish. Type the following into notepad:
Code:
<a href="#null" onclick="javascript:alert('Hello!')">Click me!</a>

Now save it as "code.htm", and run it. Change the bit that says Hello! to anything you want. You're coding!

Indeed.

I didn't start doing any coding until two or three years ago, so 23-24 years old. Without dedicating even nearly 100% of my focus towards it, or having any previous experience, I was recently shortlisted for a pretty highly paid (for a northerner, anyway) developer job. There's plenty of material to learn from, and with places like Stack Exchange etc. it's arguably easier than ever to get started and keep improving. And with 40-odd years left of working at the bare minimum, it's hardly too late to start now.

If you want to do something in life, don't make excuses. Just do it or you'll live with regrets.

Edit: and learning to code can cost as little as nothing. Plenty of online resources for free, or look in your local library for non-ancient books.

I would take a course, but can't lay down the expense, which I'd imagine be in the thousands. I'd like to learn further and improve my skillset, but the money is the major issue.

Cowrie! Bowtie. Hmm, then it tried to auto correct to 'bowels'. Obviously two words, silly. Bow. Tie.

Everything's coming up Millhouse (and also shit).

I'm not going to elaborate on a lot of this, but:

1. I have a massive headache and think I'm becoming ill.
2. I'm in massive debt from paying for flights and hotel to Poland for a really good friend's wedding and have realised a mere 2 weeks before I'm due to fly that my passport is expired.
3. My landlord has not paid the gas bill for before I moved in and changed supplier despite me forwarding him the bill so I've been hit with nasty letters and a threatening of court.
4. I am working away from home all week and spending a lot of weekends at my girlfriend's so I'm not getting to come home very often to sort my life out and keep it running.
5. The electric people have put 800 letters through my door asking me to make an appointment for changing my electric meter but I'm never going to bloody be here.
6. I have no job stability. I'm being used to replicate our head office server setup at the site of the company that bought us out, and they are either building me up to give me a new job, or using me to get the job done at which point I'll be made redundant.
7. The D+D club has had a permanent space open up and I can't join because I'll never fucking be here.
8. I feel like a Judas to all my current work colleagues for hastening the close of the current head office and putting them out of jobs even though if I didn't do it someone else would.
9. As mentioned to a couple of people at Manchester I have done a horrible thing in my personal love life that I have no way of reconciling with the nice guy I thought I was.
10. I missed my own Dad's birthday through being so busy at work, so I'm going to make a 200 mile detour tomorrow so he can at least get his presents and card.
11. When I got back to my house after three weeks away the electricity had been cut off and everything in my fridge and freezer was stinking the house out. Apparently the emergency supply on the meter doesn't kick in automatically and you have to be there to press a button. Apparently it costs £3 a week to run my fucking fridge freezer.
12. I've not had any time to devote to you guys and I'm missing out on being involved with Yays and Nays.

So in summary, I'm miserable, ill, in debt, stuck in this country, stressed, and a total tool.

Lift the flap on the front cover of the wii, and the battery cover on the remote and mash the buttons.

This is a bit of a long shot, but thought I might as well ask.

Somewhere in North/North West London, Maybe Kensal Green, Willesden, that type of area, there is a car mechanics/garage with a large wall mural on the side. It has been there for as long as I can remember, since the 80s.

The mural is of three people, the centre person is Sandi Toksvig. The other two people are both men. I am about 99% certain that I remember reading they were her co-stars on one program or another, but I cannot remember which program it was. It wasn't number 73 as I am pretty sure that neither of the men was Neil Buchanan.

I am sure I once read something about this on Google, but now cant find anything. Does anyone happen, just happen, to know what I am talking about? Has anyone else ever seen it?

I'm actually not quite sure what part of London it is. I know the general area, but not well enough to find my way around, and the general area is too wide for me to take a guess at.

HOWEVER someone on Twitter knows the garage! I shall find out mire details tomorrow!

Ok, so apparently the woman who owned the garage worked with Sandi Toksvig on Sorry I Haven't A Clue, hence the giant mural.

Sandi Toksvig's sister has no idea what I am talking about but would love further details. I have asked for more info on the exact area from Twitterer who knows what I am talking about.

I know I am the only person in the world who cares about this, but it is annoying me that the Google does not know this very important thing...

Finally someone sympathises. I also can't stop watching Chinny's clip. I am right in thinking that kids' TV was just brilliant back then, aren't I? It wasn't belittling.

Anyway... some excitement in today's searches where I typed my queries back into a Google with a slightly more awake brain and there were LOADS of results. My eyes widened and then I noticed that they were all what i had written both on here and on Twitter

Why do cats lose hair like they've got male pattern baldness?

I'm sat at my desk and Nutmeg just jumped up on to my lap for a bit of fuss. 5 minutes later she jumps off and I look like I've gained a fur coat.

I already taught him to code. Now he just needs to teach himself to be better ;)

I would take a course, but can't lay down the expense, which I'd imagine be in the thousands. I'd like to learn further and improve my skillset, but the money is the major issue.

What can you do already? As Malabar said, there's plenty of stuff online, and we're always here to help.

Not much, to be honest: what little I have known, I have forgotten. The maths/numbers parts is always the stumbling block. Then again I don't know what language is best to start with, if any (is HTML a programming language?)

No, HTML is just markup, more like grammar to regular language.

Honestly, I've rarely had to do any maths in any of the programming I've done. It depends what you're trying to do, of course (what sort of stuff do you want?), but programming does not necessarily mean maths.

Depends what you mean by maths. A good understanding of logic is a requirement for most programming tasks.

Naming Ceremony was lovely. Done me some drinking and some science with helium gallons and stuff. Pleased to report that gravity is functioning as it should. FiL has said barely 60 words to me so far, since arrival at 3pm yesterday.

Went to Maplin and bought new speakers for my gaming corner*. Outrun now sounds lovely. Hooray!

Sadly they are 3mm too high to fit where I want them to go. Booo!

Not sure what to do now. They're nothing fancy but better than the cheapie Dell ones I was using.

* Currently only the Revo PC can use the speakers but I am sure I can fashion something..
