Spotted this on The Guardian website and the clips really are toe curlingly bad. As it says, there are great actors and there are great roles and sometimes they just don't fit.

Anybody have any suggestions? Keanu Reeves has a few in his career, as does Brad Pitt. Any others you can think of?

The definitive Canoe Reeves one is Don John in Much Ado About Nothing. Staggeringly terrible casting. Actually between that, Constantine and Dracula you can probably just say to never cast him as a bloke called John. Or indeed just to never cast him.

Val Kilmer in Batman Forever. Top tip - don't write a script that revolves around the duality of your central character then cast an actor only capable of portraying one emotion.

I love Simon Pegg, but watching the film all I could think was, "That's Simon Pegg." And Simon Pegg isn't Scotty. They should have cast another unknown.

I can't say that Simon Pegg as Scotty really bothered me though. I thought the writers were mostly to blame for that character's failings, whoever had been in that role it would still have been a bit shit. And whoever thought his comedy alien sidekick was a good idea needs a kicking.

Ben Kingsley in Gandhi. Not even a real Indian ffs.

Richard Briers in Doctor Who. A great actor who turned up and played it for laughs which only works if you can actually pull it off.

On the flip side Nicolas Parsons appeared in Who two years later as a vicar which on the face of it was more woeful miscasting, but actually he was wonderful. Turns out that before he moved into light entertainment he'd trained as an actor.

No, it's about good actors in good roles but it just doesn't work. Unless you think that messrs Wilson, Cage and Ritchie are all brilliant actors who've been unlucky.

Any time anyone mentions badly cast roles, that is the one that sticks in my mind. I have never, ever seen an actor so under-prepared and incapable of taking on a classic role. It is so, so terrible.

Gospvg was badly miscast in Big Stampy Boots.

I remember that, it was terrifying. Me and my little sister were especially frightened when the two girls go down into misty bay, against their mother's wishes. With unhilarious consequences. I must have been eight when I saw that.

Gospvg - at the risk of making a mortal enemy, I say Owen Wilson is great. Have you never seen him in Royal Tenennbaums, Bottle Rocket, Life Aquatic - in fact any of the Wes Anderson films? He's brilliant in them, co-writes 'em too. He's a damn good script writer too. Owen as Ned in Life Aquatic delivers a genuinely touching, endearing performance. NED! I agree the rom-coms he's also in are shocking, but they can be safely avoided. Hope he's feeling better after that old suicide attempt, and that he makes more excellence.

How she ever managed to fool people into thinking she's a good actress, I have no idea. She's so criminally insincere in every film I've seen her. Her acting is paper thin. She also has a distractingly large, palid forehead.
