As the title suggests, I need an evening with someone else's PCIe graphics card. Any will do, just need to prove mine is fucked and not some other part of the computer. Will collect, return and buy a pint. You, not your graphics card.

I might go for one of these, actually

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150353

It's just a very tricky problem - every now and then, well three times since October, my new PC has just stopped sending a signal to the monitor. The frst time, it worked again for no good reason the next day, the second time, I took the card out and re-seated it a couple of times, which got it going, and last night it was out for the count despite removing and reinserting, then this morning it worked again - but for how long?

I'm not sending my machine back and being without it unless it's more than the card that's wrong - they can send me a card and I'll return their old broken one when I get it - but I need to prove it's the card - and as the fault is so intermittent, I need another card on standby to swap in next time it happens.

Have you tried replacing the vga cable? My rule of thumb, always check the cheapest component first

If the card is a dualhead and the monitor a dual input, wire both inputs up (e.g. one over DVI and one over VGA). The next time it fails, toggle to the other input; this can rule out the monitor and the cabling.
