What's happened to this place lately? Is it the cold, miserable dark nights? The "credit crunch"? PMT? (doc, is that even possible for the majority of users?) Why is everyone so bitchy?

Bring back the :luv:

It hasn't seemed particularly less-loving on the whole for me.

That said, the first few weeks of January are generally when most people are miserable.

I still love everyone on this forum. I love them almost as much as I love Marcella in Grosse Point Blank which I've just watched for the first time just now and am wondering how stupid I am for not having seen it before.

But yes, I love everyone here, and have thusly avoided bitchiness. :luv:

Here's a lovely picture from the lovely film I saw...

Image

The baby is sweet and reminds John of the meaning of life - it is a perfect moment with Under Pressure in the background, one that sent me into floods of gawping tears of joy. Later John kills more people, and it's still glorious and meaningful.

Also I find Joan Cusack dangerously bonkers foxy in it despite being mental. And Minnie Driver looks way cute as well, having escaped her sports camp. I'm rambling.

Here's a Shirley Hughes pic of some kids playing under a table. Shirley Hughes is the greatest children's book artist ever.

THERE. That should halt some negativity round this place.

*Goes back to drinking. I'm drunk!*

How on earth have you avoided the life-changing awesomitude that is Grosse Point Blank until now?

Well I'm pretty sure I didn't like it, the room for error on that is minimal I must say.

I don't know. My mum and dad once told me that an old gypsy woman would come by when I was very little and knock on the door and try to sell them pegs or she'd curse them. When they refused, she'd make a weird sign with her fingers and mutter dark and terrible curses in presumably her native tongue. Or gibberish. (Actually true.) I can only assume that one of those dark and terrible curses was for me to have an inexplicable ignorance of, and for no one to mention in either word of mouth or advertising form, this film to me directly for over ten years.

TEN WASTED YEARS. :'(

But I have seen it now and have a stupid smile on my face and feel so extraordinarily happy-happy-joy-joy. Dimrill you are wrong, and I weep for you, but love you all the same as you are part of this wonderful world that can have hitmen finding meaning in lives fraught with violence and lies, and play airplane with cute women and dance to The Cure and look damn fine with equally clever damn fine girls.

This monday is officially the most deprssing day of the year, according the THE MAN.

Entry to all five Shakespeare houses in Stratford upon Avon is only £1 today, to cheer people up, like. Apparently they're very good, and 98% of feedback has been positive over the last month. And that's at full price. It's probably not the worst thing you'll ever have done.

Gross Pointe Blank is quite literally... good.

I do like that Under Pressure moment. Blank is building to that point for a while and you can tell he's reached a junction in his life. The music builds and gets much louder in the mix and then his friend hands him the baby. His life has changed, he knows what to do. His heart and soul have returned. He is no longer Blank, he is Martin, and he wants to live.

HOWEVER. Minnie Driver is terrible. She has a ridiculous moon face and a terrible accent. That film with a different leading lady (I'm open to suggestions) would've been an A+ classic. As it is, it's a B+.

In related news... Robocop remake? Really?
