What's the point? They're the same price as the fabulous Steak and Ale pies, but they contain animal piss filters chopped into little chunks. FUCKING AWFUL.

Why, you ask? Because I've only gone and picked one up instead of a Steak and Ale pie, and I'm now eating it, smelling the awful kidney, the lovely steak and gravy tainted with some animal's piss.

Does anyone like kidney?

Ok, who else expected this to be about free pies?

(I'm kidding :luv: )

Edit for seriousness (yeah, I'm shocked too). I don't mind steak and kidney pies, but they do pale into insignificance against the mighty steak and ale pies. :)

Meanwhile I made a steak and red wine pie myself and it was lovely. In fact I made 2 and am going to freeze the second.

Mmm, alcholocious.

I find the ale tends to cover the taste of the mechanically recovered meat.

That said I always have one in the cupboard in case of emergencies.

Kidney is lushness. Especially from little baby calves. For preference the little calf should have been raised in a small box.

More like snake and pigmeat.

I have no idea why my Mum always called them that, maybe it's a Cumbrian thing....

I think they are foul too.

Fray Bentos Steak & Kidney pies are fantastic. I don't get to eat them any more because the wife is a wuss, so we have to have the Steak and Ale.

It's a credit crunch, get used to it. We'll all be eating squirrel and toe jam pies in a few months. And then when we run out of Grim... things to eat, we'll get into pussy.

Squirrel flavour crisps are coming out very soon though.

They were the flavour that won (amongst others) in the create a flavour campaign they ran over Summer.

I love kidneys.

Also liver.. /drools. Hearts.. Chicken necks.. You name it. Me and nan used to fight over the turkey giblets.

My grandparents were real ration folk who still had chickens in their back garden when they died and never did quite get used to being able to get food whenever their heart desired so I wasn't raised to dislike any kind of food.

Whenever we went over there we would leave with two dozen eggs covered in feathers and shite and three dozen toilet rolls.

Oh and there's nothing wrong with squirrel either apart from their friggin tiny so a pain if you want to have your fill (same with crab though..) lots of picking to get a good mouthful.

Southern yanks eat squirrel and all kinds of other shit. Affectionately known as 'coon chow' because the slaves used to eat it. Muskrat, possum.. you name it, anything's game down there :D
