 Post subject: 2.5" SATA Hard-Drive

My nephew has battered our his PS3 by turning it off at the plug in a huff when he got beat off someone on the internet and its burnt out the hard drive. Im not arsed about size although the original 40gb would be the lowest I'd want to go but its the cheapest with a reliable make Im after.

Have you tried plugging it in to your PC to see if it can be rescued?

Only got a laptop with minimal connections, Im a bit scared to take one of the hard drives from this incase it all goes tits up.

Ah. It's still just a standard SATA connector on the drive, so any SATA capable desktop will accept it without modifcations...there must be one somewhere you can use to check it out.

So yeah I really want a go on LBP so whats the cheapest, theres one for 30-odd on ebuyer but dont you have to pay postage with them?

If it's in warranty I'd return the machine, turning it off at the plug should in no way break anything.

Yes. It'll not finish writing what it was writing obviously but it certainly shouldn't cause any kind of hardware destroying power surge.

Possible the head could have touched the platter though. Which is why I'd slap it in a PC and run SpinRite over it.
