I hate to admit but I'm a bit of a football fan. Not an out and out football fan but I catch MOTD as much as I can and somewhat support Portsmouth.
I was pretty disgusted to hear about the incident involving Steven Gerrard, it kinda reminded me of that incident involving Lee Bowyer and some other Leeds players.
What disgusted me even more than finding out Gerrard had been acting like a thug was this statement by Liverpool FC
Quote:
"Steven has been an outstanding servant to Liverpool for the last ten years and the club will give him all the support he needs at this time."
So just because he has played for Liverpool for ten years allows him to go out and act like a thug, get drunk and beat people up? I find that statement apalling and hope he gets the book thrown at him.
Professional footballer should mean just that, professional. Not drunken thug lout. Footballers earn a disproportionate ammount of money IMO as it is and retire in their mid 30's. Acts like this should mean they shouldn't play again, especially when kids look up to them for inspiration.
