Just a heads-up really.

Due to premier on UK TV over Xmas, but it's already been shown on Australian TV and is therefore available from the usual torrent sources etc.

I really enjoyed it. Not as good as the peerless "The Wrong Trousers" of course, but still very good and far better and more inventive than the vast majority of animated shorts/films.

The title is a pun on my fave film ever, and I love Wallace & Gromit, so I'm pretty chuffed about this!

Tsk, it's 'A Matter of Life & Death', silly.

Which I shall now tell you all about in painstaking detail. David Niven plays a bomber pilot who ("That's enough about obsessing over ancient Powell & Pressburger films," - ed.)

Pah! More Powell & Pressburger talk immediately. They made some of the finest films known to man:

A Matter of Life and Death,
The Red Shoes
Life and Times of Colonel Blimp
Black Narcissus

...hmmm, might buy one of the box sets as a Christmas present to myself.

/EDIT Oooo...cheapuss

The Ozzies were too busy drinking fizzy beer and running over kangaroos with utes to watch it. Except the one who'd recorded it, obviously.

Good idea Morte! I think I shall write a big article on them for the website *cough* forum extolling their virtues. I used to bang on about them a lot here, as basically I wish I could live in some sort of Powell & Pressburger mythic Britain dream-world or something. Have you seen 'I Know Where I'm Going'? It's classic P&P and also has one of the most beautiful women in the history of alway, Pamela Brown. A Canterbury Tale is also enough to make me blub too. "What wouldn't I give to grow old in a place like this." They're Martin Scorcese's fave film-makers for good reason.

And yes, everyone buy that ace-best box set! I'm very tempted and I own six of the titles in there.

Did anyone see this?

I wet myself laughing at the Batman 'some days you just can't get rid of a bomb' reference, and it was nice to see a little Bagpuss in the foreground of one shot as well.

It was great. Puntastic.

But I felt short changed as it was on about 30 minutes* :( It felt like they "wrapped it" all up very, very fast. They easily could have made another 30 minutes about the discovery of her being a nutter/attempted killings/doggy love, etc. :(

I didn't check and just assumed it was the usual 1.5 hours long, or whatever the others are. When it suddenly ended (eaten by crocs) I was a bit confused!

I think it was only the curse on that was full length, the rest have all been shorts

I did enjoy it though

I liked it, but not all that much... :(

I was suprised that the whole film took place during the day, and I thought Gromit's nose was slightly smaller than usual.

Also, the stupid BBC guy talked over the Wallace and Gromit theme at the end! %$&*!

The others are all 30 minutes long except the feature film.

I actually thought it could have done with being a little longer - it felt like the story was a bit rushed, I agree that it could have been developed more.

Not to mention the 5 minute "homage" to Aliens :D

I thought it was pretty good and about the right length to be honest.

My dad said it's an Austin A35 van.

Given how long Aardman spend on these, surely if it had been say 15 minutes longer it wouldn't have even been out until Christmas 2011 or so? Also I'm not sure about long format anyway - I'd say Were Rabbit is significantly poorer than Grand Day Out or Wrong Trousers and Chicken Run (Aardman feature length) is not that good and rather boring.

Loaf and Death I thought was utterly brilliant, full of lovely attention to detail like the reworked brand names and record titles, references and with a perfectly acceptable plot to hang the comedy off.

Grand Day Out took 7 years to make, Were-Rabbit was 5 years. Loaf and Death by comparison was banged out in 7 months. He's getting quicker :)
