Quote:
Rebellion and 2000 AD are proud to announce that Judge Dredd is coming to a cinema near you soon!

Together with DNA Films, the movie production company behind such great sci-fi movies such as Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later, Judge Dredd will go into production in 2009.

Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director said, ‘We can’t give away too many details at this point, but we’re looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen.’

Mm. It was mentioned a few days ago, but there's bugger-all information as yet. Seems promising, though, what with 2000 AD now having an owner that gives a shit (unlike Fleetway) and a British production company involved.

Who would you like to see play Dredd? I'm struggling to think of chins worthy of it.

Edit: actually Micky Rourke suddenly springs to mind...

I'm not really that fussed, as long as they keep true to the character. (In other words, get someone who can actually act, since Dredd's as much about detective work as breaking heads.) It'd be nice if the lead kept the helmet on, too, but I can't see that happening.

sarcasm right??

I used to read 200ad as a youngling.... but the film was bad bad bad... I would like to see move ABC warriors.

Judge Death would be be a cool story line... And would have to bring a sexy Judge Anderson in...

There was an interview with the Rebellion fellows a couple of years ago when they said that they wanted to try to get a Dredd film made. During the course of the interview they said that part of the deal was that Dredd was not to take his helmet off.

Moving house, and half way across the country. :)

A second for Mickey Rourke... after his excellence as Marv in Sin City.

I have here the latest issue of Deathray magazine, which has an interview with Carlos Ezquerra, the artist and visual creator of Dredd and Strontium Dog, amongst others. Interestingly, regarding the look of Dredd's head and shoulders::

Quote:
Pat and John showed me a poster for the film Death Race 2000 as a reference for Dredd, but the truth is I was more influenced by ancient Greek helmets, the sort of things the Spartans would have worn.

I find it amusing that a Stallone film was proposed as an early reference model for Dredd.

If anyone has the Robocop DVD, that's even funnier for references. There's a fleeting glimpse of a pre-production model for Robocop's helmet, which is almost identical to Dredd's.

Very much this.

Also, as someone's mentioned it, I'm obliged to say: "Sin City was rubbish"

I found Sin City just dragged. I enjoyed it in the main, but I wanted it to end a lot sooner than it did.

I like Ron Perlman, especially after watching Hellboy 2 the other day, but I wouldn't think he'd be good as Dredd. He's a bit too cheeky. Dredd needs to be deadpan, not a wisecracker.

Perhaps he can act 'deadpan'. you know what these actors are like.

Also Dread does wise crack in the comics/ graphic novels. does he not?

Perlman always seems to come across as either sympathetic or posturing, so I haven't seen that he can act properly deadpan, no.

Dredd will do and say things which are funny, but it's black humor, and it's the delivery which makes the comedy when it happens. Dredd is straight down the line, and that is the basis for the jokes. You need someone who doesn't even look like they could crack a smile.
