Has anyone done a thread like this before? I was thinking of going all the way back to my trusty ZX81 and then briefly talking about my fave, or two, games for each one.

Why don't you kick it off with your own list first?

I played Miracle Warriors once on someone else's Master System at some point in 1991 and then spent FOREVER wanting my own copy of it. I don't think I ever did get one. I'm fairly confident that if I played it now I'd think it was shit.

Mind you, the gf's copy of Impossible Mission for her DS arrived today. It's a Christmas pressie, which I will STEAL and play myself.

For the Speccy it'd have to be Bak 2 Skool, which I played more than anything else at the time.

Amiga... hmm. Frontier or Captive 2: Liberation.

PSX, Jumping Flash.

PC, Theme Hospital or Xcom Apocalypse.

PS2.. I don't know...

Gamecube, probably Harvest Moon.

I'm afraid I've owned too many formats and too many games to be able to do this. I have so many great games that it's hard to separate them. So here's a selection of some of the top games from most of the formats I've owned:

CPC 6128 - Sorcery +, Head Over Heels, North & South, Yia Ar Kung Fu, Ikari Warriors, Chase HQ
GX4000 - Pang, Switchblade (both are two of most outstanding computer games of all time).
Spectrum - CJ's Elephant Antics (better than Sonic IMO), Commando 128, Chase HQ, Smash TV
C64 - Way Of The Exploding Fist, Bruce Lee, Detective
Amiga 1200 - Sensible Golf, Wing Commander, Populous, Premier Manager
Atari Lynx - Lemmings
CD32 - Diggers
Atari 7800 - Ballblazer, Commando. The built in Asteroids game isn't bad either.
Megadrive - Sensible Soccer, Afterburner, Sonic 2.
Master System - Sonic 1, Wonderboy, Smash TV
DS - Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, my CPC emulator, er, er, er, have they released any more decent games yet?
PS1 - It was all dirge. Gave the bloody thing away in the end. Worst console ever.
PS2 - The GTA games, Outrun (shame they didn't include the original however)
Dreamcast - Soul Calibre, Virtua Tennis
PC - Sim City series, GTA games, a CPC emulator (etc).

But no good games come out for the wii anymore, and nothing will beat rock band 2, well maybe rock band 3.

ZX81 - Centipede. Was about the only thing I ever managed to play on it before it broke :DD
Spectrum - Tough one. But footballer of the year (gremlin). Football Manager (even with it's D BREAK - Cont repeat?) problem. JSW and Underwurlde.Everyone's a Wally. Automania.
Atari VCS - Keystone capers.
Vic20 - Fruit machine sim.
Colecovision - Sega's Turbo.
Commodore 16 - Fruit machine sim. I only got a C16 for this game, mind you it was dirt cheap.
Atari 400 - Joust. Sublime game.
Atari 800XL - Bezerk
NES - Mario 2, Excitebike.
Master System - Alex Kidd, Shinobi.
PC Engine - Chan VS Chan (aka Kato Ken), Vigilante, Outrun, Shinobi.
SNES - SMW, SMK, Pilotwings, SF2, MK2.Super Pong (lil green froggy dude game.. odd..) Vegas Stakes.
Atari Lynx - California games.
Megadrive - Magical Hat Adventure, Sonic 2, Thunderforce 4, SF2 SCE.
Mega CD - Night Trap, That helicopter game ( Cobra command? brain fart alert !)
Atari ST - Summer Olympiad, Hostages.
Amiga - Syndicate, Magic Pockets. Vroom.
32X - Doom.
Neo Geo - Baseball Stars 2, entire metal slug trilogy, NAM1975. Ghost Pilots. Samurai Showdown, World Heroes 2.
3DO - Road Rash, Gex, NFS, Battlesport.
Atari Jaguar - Doom, AVP.
PSX - Worms. I never really had my PSX that long before getting rid for a -
Saturn - Radiant Silvergun, Daytona, Sega Rally.
N64 - Pilotwings 64 (astounding game) Mario 64, Waverace, Blastdozer, DK64. Cruisin USA, World & Exotica.
Dreamcast - Ikaruga, Sega Rally 2.
Gamecube - Burnout, Burnout 2.MarioKart, Luigi's Mansion.
XBOX - Sega GT (then I sold it to fix up my car).
PS2 - Outrun 2006 C2C, Fast & Furious (handling was pump but the modding was insane) I didn't get my first PS2 til about 3 years back and got it given to me free. I only wanted to play C2C.

OLD PC GAMES - Screamer (Virgin), Carmageddon, Beavis & Butthead (the one with hockaloogie). Daytona.
More recent PC GAMES - NFSU, NFSU2, NFSMWCE, NFS Undercover, Juiced 2 : HIN, Grid. HL2 & Ep 2 (ep 1 was a bit poo really) Left 4 Dead, Crysis : Warhead, Fallout3.

If anymore spring to mind I'll add them in. I never owned an Amstrad CPC, but loved Metrocross & the Ninja Scooter game by Mastertronic.

Please bear in mind that some of these systems I did not own until many years after they were originally released, I just got them through the classifieds or whatnot to give them a go. During the late 90's I was huge into retrogaming (who wasn't?) and so bought and sold alot of older machines.. Inc the Intellivision, which tbh I thought blew large chunks and I didn't really enjoy any of the games or it's dumbox controllers.

Truly fabulous game. Good on the speccy, but the graphics and sound on the Amstrad just made the other versions look rather poo.

I'm astounded... that's right, astounded that I forgot the Dreamcast!

It's got to be House of the Dead 2 on that..

And I forgot the PS2.. but I hardly played it so that's ok.

I've no idea what to choose for the speccy. So much I used to play. Chase HQ or Robocop maybe.

Xbox has to be Jet Set Radio Future. Definitely.

N64 - WWF No Mercy (non glitched version). The best wrestling game ever.

Gamecube - Super Monkey Ball.

PS2 - Samurai Warriors 2 or Guitar Hero

360 - Dynasty Warriors 6

DS - Phoenix Wright series. Despite the fact that they frequently frustrate and annoy me, without them there is no ds.

Amiga - I find I used to play Realms rather a lot. And Civ.

PSP - Ridge Racer

Off top of head and in no order:

Amiga 500 (1mb):

UN Squadron - The first computer game I ever played.
Gravity Power - The best 2 player game ever made. BINGO! TOUCHDOWN! etc.
Syndicate - The first game to utterly immerse. 1984... for kids!
Colonization - The best game Sid Meier ever made, imho. Avoid Col2.
Moonstone - Over the top decapitations! Epic quest that makes friends hated rivals! Awesome!
Infection - Like Othello, but more infecty. A fun PD game.
Sim City - Sometimes I bus-daydream that I'm fielding questions from reporters on how awesome my city is.
K240 - A neglected classic. "Welcome to Sci-Tech." Ninooninooninooo! Incoming missiles! Oooh!
Shadow Fighter - Beware of Pupazz indeed. And Cute Tiger Girl eh? Phwooar, eh lads? JUDITH!
Monkey Island 2 - Taught me games could be funny, but also a perfect land to lose yourself in.

PC:

Terra Nova - Bouncy bouncy liberatey space planetey fun fun fun!
Space Rangers 2 - So addictive I had to sell it, was ruining my life. Really.
Civ 4 - My empire is complete. I am awesome. I am Dan Quayle apparently. Still, hugs.
Freespace 2 - Best space shooter ever with near infinitely awesome mods. Want to fly a Viper? Here.
Lord of the Rings Online - Lovely people online in lovely world mit lovely storylines. Lovely. Completely casual.
Silent Hunter 3 - ALAAARM! PING-PA PING-PA PING-PA CHUMCHUMCHUMCHUM *FWOBOOOM!FWOBOOOM!*
GTA San Andreas - Genuine sense of wonder when I first played this, my first 3D GTA.
Defcon - The only online game I am aces at.
Half Life - Oooh, this is creepy smart fun! Neat! A scientist. I must kill him in the noggin BLAT BLAT BLAT.
Company of Heroes - I have the shakes when I finish playing. "JESUS Conrad! Tie your fucking shoelaces!"
Grim Fandango - The smartest, driest script in computer gaming history. Best plot too.
Il42 - What's my life expectancy again? Oh. Still... NEEEOOOOOW! FWOOSH FWOOSH! FOR THE MOTHERLAND! KABOOM!

DS Lite:

Phoenix Wright - Glee! If only everyone you met in real life were equally awesome to Phoenix's acquaintences.
Advance Wars 2 - It's strategy! But with funny bickering people! We're here to rape your PC-orientated brain! FUN!
Super Mario Bros 3D - Ahhh. So that's why people like platformers. I understand now. Also - MINIGAMES!
Zelda Phantom Hourglass - Great until I have to go into that pissing dungeon for the third time.
Professor Layton - "Professor Layton saves the day!" - "I really must drown that child. Ahh, puzzles!"
Elite Beat Agents - We are here to save the world. Through dance! (Again, I wish life operated like this.)

I'll just pick one for each format or I'll be here awhile.

Spectrum - Has to be Chaos. I played quite a few of the Gollop turn-based stuff but Chaos is still the best.
Master System - Wonder Boy III - The Dragon's Trap. Probably my favourite plaftorm game on any format
Game Boy - Tetris
Mega Drive - Shining Force II. The Mega Drive had some great RPGs, from the hideous-but-still great Buck Rogers to the highly-polished Landstalker but SFII just wins out for me.
Mega CD - Eternal Champions - Challenge from the Dark Side. The Mega Drive version was pretty mediocre but the CD version added a shedload of stuff and was probably the only one-on-one fighter I've given any time.
Saturn - Radiant Silvergun. Cost me £120 at the time and I never regretted it. Sold it on for the same amount so can't complain. One of those games you wish more people had played, or better still, had a pal release (although it would've probably sold about 20 copies)
NES - Super Mario Bros 3. I've never really been into the NES but SMB3 seems head and shoulders above most other games I've played on it
SNES - Pilotwings. Best use of Mode 7 graphics
Gamecube - Resident Evil 4. Pretty obvious choice but closely followed by Ultimate Muscle - Legends Vs New Generation which was a cel-shaded wrestling game that never made it out over here, which was a shame as it was the best wrestling game I'd played since Royal Rumble on the Mega Drive
CD32 - Pirates! Gold. I think I still prefer this over the Xbox remake
Xbox - Out Run C2C
Dreamcast - Shenmue. The load times in Shenmue II grated just a little too much for me though
Amiga - Captive. Much prefer this to the other dungeon-crawlers on the Amiga
Playstation - Um Jammer Lammy. The timing seemed a little off on a couple of the songs but it's still a great game.
PS2 - Probably Final Fantasy X. I'll probably never play it ever again though - 120 hours was enough
Game Gear - Has a decent version of pac-man
Neo Geo Pocket Color - Cardfighters Clash. One of the few handheld games I've actually played on link-up
Nintendo 64 - Blast Corps. Rare seemed to be the only company besides Nintendo themselves who knew what the hell they were doing with the N64
PC Engine - Pac-land.
Neo Geo AES - Probably Soccer Brawl, but the Magical Drop series of games can be ridiculously-frantic puzzlers for a change of pace.

Of the stuff that's more current -
DS - Probably one of the puzzlers - Zoo Keeper, though I sunk hours into Meteos, Puzzle Quest and the like
Wii - Super Mario Galaxy.
360 - Fallout 3. Easily the best game I've played in years

Then there are some formats where I've not played a single game that's really grabbed me -
Atari 2600, Jaguar, Lynx, CD-I, 3DO, Wonderswan, 32X.. couldn't recommend a thing for any of 'em.

Speccy: Death Wish III -- I can just pok-a-pok-pok away for yonks on it. Great on trips.
C64: Last Ninja 2 -- Couldn't play it now so perhaps I should say IK+ instead.
Master System: Kenseiden or Wonderboy III -- Two awesome arcade adventures, there.
NES: Solar Jetman -- Yeah I loved Scuba Diver on the Speccy too, now it comes up.
Miggy: Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge or Laser Squad -- I was stunned by how smooth Lotus was at the time.
SNES: F-Zero -- Forget the Mode 7 loveliness, it's simply an awesomely balanced racer.
PC: Doom -- Doom.
Genesis: Gunstar Heroes or MegaLoMania -- I wish I'd written MegaLoMania.
PC Engine: Shinobi -- The only home conversion with anything like the soul of the original.
N64: F-Zero X -- Only downside is Mr Blobby being the announcer.
PSX: Wip3out, Castlevania SOTN or Soul Edge -- The breakable weapons almost make Soul Edge a better game than Soul Calibur... shame fists are overpowered.
Saturn: Vampire Saviour -- Delightfully OTT.
Dreamcast: Soul Calibur or maybe KOF 99 Evolution -- I like my fighters. Crap at them, mind.
GameCube: Resident Evil 4 -- The new Doom.
PS2: Shadow Of The Colossus or God Hand or Resi 4 or MGS4 or... -- You can't go wrong with a PS2.
Xbox: Thief III or Outlaw Golf 2 -- Shuttup they're both ACES.
Xbox 360: Not Space Giraffe -- WTF?!

I don't understand why the ties were broken between Rare and Nintendo. Maybe Rare decided it was time to retire when they signed up with m$? I mean, they've not released a killer app game since they broke ties with Nintendo really have they? Terrible shame tbh, I'm sure with Rare onside the Cube would have been so much better.

Yes, Blastcorps (aka Blastdozer.. That's what I'm sorta used to it being called) was truly a breath of fresh air in an at the time staling game industry. I absolutely loved every single moment of it (even the later and last levels that got your heart rate going).

We never did get that true sequel to goldeneye either.. I mean, Perfect Dark on N64 was amazing but it just wasn't the same without Bond in it :(

My saturn pick has to be Shining Force III or Panzer Dragoon Saga with honourable mention to Burning Rangers (Sense a spilit second! Have angel on your wing!).

I'm not sure about Dreamcast. There's not an awful lot I'm really fond of on it when I really think about it. Crazy Taxi 1+2 were lovely though. Marvel Vs Capcom 2 was spectacular. Shenmue was innovative and clever but I didn't really like it that much.

PS2: Final Fantasy X

XBox 360: BOMBERMAAAN and Fallout 3

A500+ - Sensi. I had too many games (Glasgow's infamous Barras are a 40 minute train ride away) but I always went back to Sensi.
Gameboy - Pokemon. I hated the cartoon, but the game was like heroin coated pringles.
PC - GTA London. My all time favourite GTA. Good music and crap cockney accents. Magic, you slaaag!
PS1 - Vib Ribbon. I go back to this every time I buy new music, just to see what it looks/plays like.
PS2 - The Getaway. The only one of my PS2 games that still sticks in my head.
360 - To be confirmed.

Most life changing game however was Music 2000 on the PS1. It was the catalyst for my obsession with electronic music and samplers. It was also shit.

I'm not going to cheat like other people by naming more than one, but I will add comments because otherwise list threads get dull. Anyway, off the top of my head, and reserving the right to change my mind, here goes:

Acorn Electron - Hopper (frogger clone, and the earliest game I still have many vivid memories of playing)
BBC - Deathstar (Sinistar clone, and the first game to genuinely scare me)
NES - Duckhunt (I was young, you used a gun, and the graphics seemed incredible)
Gameboy - Tetris (obviously)
SNES - Secret of Mana (probably my favourite co-op game ever)
PC - UFO: Enemy Unknown (maybe my favourite... game ever)
Playstation - Metal Gear Solid (when a game trying to be a movie was still fresh and exciting)
N64 - Goldeneye (I really do not understand why so many think Halo is/was more important than this)
GBA - Advance Wars (that a handheld game could have so much depth was a revelation to me)
Dreamcast - Shenmue (so gently paced, surreal and unintentionally hilarious that it perfectly suited my days as a stoner)
PS2 - Canis Canem Edit (much more fun than any of that generation's GTAs)
Gamecube - Eternal Darkness (fantastic "going-insane-em-up" which still makes me excited/slightly terrified by the potential power of videogames as a medium)
DS - Mario Kart (my dreams of eight-human-player GP finally came true)
Wii - Super Mario Galaxy (simply joyous)
Xbox360 - Fallout 3 (nearly untouchable for its sense of atmosphere, and soon to join the very exclusive club of games I've completed more than once)

Oooo ! I installed dosbox last night.. I'll have to look out for that. I was pretty crap at it then, but I'd love another go.

Mind you, it was all about the replays in the theatre hehe.

But it still a complete story in itself. Sort of. It still remains one of my favourite gameplay experiences on the Saturn. It's funny how in my head Burning Rangers always gets remembered in higher detail than is actually in the game. Deserves an HD sequel that game.

Oric-1: Xenon 1, a phoenix clone, nothing to do with the Bitmap Bros. Or Hopper, a Frogger clone.
Speccy: Head Over Heels (involving), Bomb Jack (pick up 'n' play)
Amiga 500: Speedball 2.
Atari Lynx: Smashing the console with a brick.
Nintendo Game Boy: Super Mario Land.
Amiga 1200: Colonization. Otherwise, upgrading was a complete waste of time and money in terms of games.
CD32: Nothing. What a pile of crap.
Super NES: Super World World sold me the console. Too many good games to contemplate to be honest- Terranigma. Super Mertoid. Pilotwings. Link to the Past. Yoshi's Island. Awesome machine.
Sega Saturn: Sega Rally. Or Virtua Fighter 2.
Nintendo 64: Super Mario 64 sold me the console. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Major's Mask. GoldenEye, the only FPS I've ever liked. Blast Corps. Many others to count, but those were my favourite.
Game Boy Color: Tetris DX.
Neo Geo Pocket: Not sure. Didn't really like any of the dozen games I had for it.
Game Boy Advance: Four-way tie between Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, Mario Kart Advance, Gradius Advance, Mario & Luigi.
Nintendo Gamecube: Animal Crossing. Only game I played with any enthusiasm after the superb Metroid Prime and Wind Waker were completed.
DS: Err, Animal Crossing Wild World has had the most play and biggest personal attachment. The DS has too many good games to choose between otherwise.
Wii: Super Mario Galaxy.
Mac: Games? On a Mac? Yeah right... ;)

Commodore Plus 4: Icicle Works - Excellent Boulderdash clone
Atari 800XL: Memory of Atari fading.....
Spectrum 128k: Deathchase 3d - This was before :attitude: pimped it. My bro and I used to play it for hours
Amiga: F1GP - The first game that I bothered to mod and update
PC: Carmegeddon 2 ate my life for great stretches. GTA3 in later days came close
Xbox: Brian Lara's Cricket. Still play it if bored, very relaxing

I'd never played it before but its the chosen Xmas themed game for our retro league (here : http://s11.zetaboards.com/RetroLeague/topic/7079816/) and seems like fun

If you want to re-live the memories you can play it online via a java emulator here :

http://www.commodore16.com/php/images/G ... Works.html

My list :

ZX81 - Rocketman
Atari 2600 - Raiders of the lost ark (closely followed by Star Raiders)
Colecovision - Mr Do!
Atari 800 - I sunk so much time into Ultima IV , or for arcade like stuff Bounty Bob Strikes back
C64 - The Last Ninja for sheer style although again Elite was a time sink
Amiga - The Secret of Monkey Island
NES - Super Mario 3
Gameboy - Tetris
GBA - Advance Wars
Super Nintendo - Street Fighter II or Zelda LTTP
Jaguar - A V P
Gamegear - Wonderboy Dragons Trap
Playstation - Resident Evil 2
Nintendo 64 - Zelda OOT
Dreamcast - Crazy Taxi
PS2 - GTA Vice City
Xbox - I played mainly emulators on here so no real games as such
Gamecube - Resident Evil 4
PSP - Space Invaders Extreme
Nintendo DS - Loads of titles i liked but none that jump out going "pick me!"

Speccy - West Bank (it's fucking great, I still love it now. The Biz is very good too but I only discovered that recently.)
NES - Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros 3 (can't choose!)
Amiga - can't remember, though I did have loads of ("perfectly legally obtained" - Ed) games... Sensi? Jaguar XJS220? Lotus 2? Mortal Kombat?!
Gameboy - Tetris
SNES - Super Mario World or SFII
N64 - Mario 64 or Mario Kart
GBA - Wario Ware Inc
Dreamcast - Space Channel 5
Gamecube - Um... Mario Kart Double Dash?
Xbox - Really didn't play much on this. Mashed was probably my most-played game.
DS (so far) - Space Invaders Extreme
Wii (so far) - Super Mario Galaxy
360 (so far) - Geometry Wars II. Or Uno. (Not really Uno, though I think it is my most-played game.)

I am indecisive and I like Mario, evidently.
