Kiss goodbye to things like Mirror's Edge appearing out of EA profit belching arsehole in the future boys and girls. They're cutting their workforce by 10% and closing some studios. Most tellingly there's this phrase as reported on EuroGonks:

Quote:
Along with the loss of jobs will be the loss of some games from the company's busy release schedule. "EA is implementing a plan to narrow its product portfolio to focus on hit games with higher margin opportunities," says the release.

More shovelware shit like their sports franchises ahoy!

Hmm. Allow me to play Devil's Advocate here for a second.

Now, the fact is that Mirror's Edge didn't sell well at all, and Dead Space didn't set the world on fire either. If you were head of a huge firm during a massive global recession, would you continue to commission risky titles that might be huge and might flop? Against a background when two of your much-hyped "new IPs" for 2008 had done pretty badly? I don't think I would. I'm not sure EA is to blame, they are only really following the market here.

Cripes. Breaking news is that they've made 1/2 of Valve redundant http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/ea-redundancies-valve
