The ultimate poll to determine the GotY can now be found here.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you a special subform where I will shortly be creating the polls to determine the Beex Game of the Year 2008.

Please do not vote yet. Before voting begins, I want to make sure I have all the nominations in the various categories. Please look over the polls and post in this thread if you think I've missed any games off, or if I should add any extra polls. Do not vote early, as I will reset any votes placed before the proper start date.

In most categories you will get to choose a first and second choice (2 points to your first place, 1 point to your second place) game. The Action/Shooter category is huge, so you get three votes; some of the other categories are small so you only get one vote. The winner will simply be the game that scores the most.

Voting will begin on 22nd December 2008 and will be open until 29th Dec 2008. At that time, all polls will close. I will then create a new poll comprising of the winner and runner up in each category; this poll will run until Jan 5th 2009 and the winner will be crowed Beex Game of the Year 2008. As a bit of fun, I will print out a certificate for the producers and we'll post it to them.

Any questions?

Too many sub-forums now, 5 is excessive.

Whinging git :luv:

For one, this one is temporary. For two, it's locked to new posts, and will only hold votes, so no-one needs to check in there for discussion ever; you only need to go in there when you want to vote.

Would you prefer the best part of a dozen polls stickied at top of General Discussion?

With the existing sub-forms, annoucements, and other stickies, I have to scroll for a long time before I actually reach general content; this is my gripe. I don't mind the existance of such things, but they're in the way.

Oops indeed. That'll teach me to vote on things before reading the associated threads. Might I suggest putting a "DO NOT VOTE UNTIL 22ND DECEMBER" announcement in the subforum?

I think you should join rock band 1 and 2 together since there pretty much the same game.

Yeah probably. It's not like it's going to break anything, mind, it's just that I'm going to reset the votes. I'm saying that now incase someone, in a few days, comes up with another nomination, and then someone else wants to change their votes, etc etc.

I'm in two minds about this, they were one entry, then I split them because they have different set lists, plus the music section doesn't have many games in. I am open to suggestions either way.

Well I certainly wouldn't want your finger getting tired from all the scrolling, so I added an anchor tag to the Topics header. If you bookmark #topics" class="postlink">http://www.beexcellenttoeachother.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3#topics you should find you jump past subforms and announcements.

I wish to object. There is no catogary I can vote in. None at all.

This is discrimination against those of us who haven't purchased* a new game all year.

I am yet to devise a course of action to deal with this. However, I am thinking........

I'm with Runcle. RB's separate setlist isn't really relevant since 95% of it transfers into the sequel.

Edit -- except Crysis, which came out in 2007. I've added Crysis Warhead though.

Good point, I'll add that as the game does have some fans here. Most of the nominations were culled from the thread we had in late Nov, I think before it came out.

Edit-- damn, I have no idea where it fits. Retro/Arcade? It's basically a 2d platformer after all.

To further prevent "too many subforums" whining, I have moved the Game Of The Year subforum out of General Discussion and up to the site main page. I didn't realise I could do that.

Good work man!

But to be pedantic....

Action/Shooter is a bit mental. Omega Five in with FPSs (!?!) whilst Space Invaders Extreme is in with Retro/Arcade?

There is a very simple explanation: I don't know what Omega Five is. I will move it to Retro/Arcade now.

This is why I put the categories up before the voting started :D

I thought it better to aim for around a half-dozen categories, otherwise we'd have lots of categories with only 1-2 games in. I am open to suggestions if people hate it.

It's really not retro in any way at all, unless you want every FPS to be retro. I don't really know what the best category is, though.

Splendid thankyou :)

TBH It wasn't Crysis I was rallying for it was Warhead. Definitely the best action FPS I have played this year. Shame Far Cry 2 was a bit of a let down really.

I don't really like sandbox and RPGs being lumped in together. You can't really compare Fallout 3 with GTA IV.

Why not? Apart from the setting and that one has stats and the other doesn't, they're basically similar.

Well no matter what category FO3 is in I will vote for it.
Must say it's by far and a bloody long way the best game I have played since HL2. Even though it's not in the same category of HL2 it doesn't matter. Quality titles like this are few and far between.

I suppose the greatest part is I have never really played a game like it before, so all the thrills n spills are completely new to me.

Ahhh, *cuddles his computer* I love it when games like this come along and you forget the time, the day and the fact that you have things that should be pissing you off.

I'm with Craster. I think they are much more comparable than, say, Dead Space and GTAIV.
If I put RPGs in their own category, it's just going to be Fable 2 and Fallout 3, isn't it? Which I think would be a bit dull.

The Rev wrote:

I'm almost tempted by Open World because (arguably) the ongoing focus of the product is on the make-your-stuff bit.

Wait. You mean these "points" things aren't just for Rock Band DLC? I'm confused.

Err, I don't profess to be an RPG expert, but what about the jRPGs like Lost Odyssey, etc?

Waste of time putting them in the vote?

(actually, Lost Odyssey was pretty good, as long as you went and made a cup of tea during the dream sequences).

I thought there were quite a few people who liked those sorts of games on here (Sheepeh and devilman are two that spring to mind). If not, no bother.

Oh, I do. My point was more that Lost Odyssey was as far as I can tell the only jRPG released this year that isn't a pile of rancid poopycack.

Can we add in some point dumps, please? In some categories I will only be voting for one game, as I don't have any of the others and it would be daft to vote for something I've not played.

It's pretty daft to vote a game as the best just because it's the only one you've played too.
