It was probably created by Apple for bullshit marketing speak like "i" = "you", as in "iPod" = "your Pod" or something rubbish like that.

It started with the original iMac and stood for internet. A big part of the early iMac ads were how easy it was to get online with them. Then Apple just adopted it as a sort of offical logo.

I don't think it's anything to get too worked up about.

iPlayer works and has a few good things on it.
itvPlayer doesn't appear to work and almost exclusively has shit things on it.

The Wire you say? Already got it on DVD.
