They've announced: Guitar Hero 5; Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2; a new Tony Hawk game that uses a skateboard peripheral; and two games from Bizarre Creations (one of them based on James Bond).

Are they becoming the new EA with moving towards releasing annual sequels?

So people with poor coordination can click the link without having to squint at it.

If only there was a way of making text bigger, you wouldn't need to do that.

Yes, it wasn't an entirely serious response. I dunno, it's just a habit I've got. Makes me stand out in a crowd, yo.

Anyway, to avoid ruining the thread I shall assert that releasing nothing but sequels is totally poo.

Oh do fuck off.

It's so depressing that all these tedious sequels, are not only tedious sequels but also have been announced by an in game ad company.

Do. Fuck. Off.

The other game from bizarre creations is meant to be like mario kart apparently which sounds like it might be good.

I'm sure the 3 fans of 007 Racing on the PS1 will be giddy at news of a semi-sequel.

Well it was Activision that pulled the plug on anything that wasn't an existing franchise or couldn't be turned into a franchise (Ghostbusters, Brutal Legend et al).

How can you continue to make sequels to the Guitar Hero games? This applies to many franchises, but GH in particular. There's not really much further they can take the game premise.

They'd probably make pots more cash if they just released new song packs every few months.

They're doing both. I suppose you could've said the same about GHIII before Rock Band came out.

The New Kids! "Hi we're the New Kids and we're so good and clean-cut..." Fuck that! I want my rock stars DEAD! I want them to fucking play with one hand and get a gun in their other fucking hand... *Mimes putting gun to head* ...and go "I hope you enjoy the show!" *Gunfire noise*

You can just continue the accessories arms race. Guitar Hero 5 will feature a keyboard, so Rock Band 3 will feature one of those keyboard guitar things. So Guitar Hero 6 adds a steel drum, so Rock Band 3 includes a saxophone for those 80s sax solos.

What's the point of that? Just buy one of those MP3 mixing decks (or indeed, some DJ software) and do it for real!

Isn't that a bit like saying just buy a guitar though? Presumably this will be even easier than actually playing two records at the same time.

I can play a real guitar and still enjoy Guitar Hero. I couldn't imagine for a million years I'd be able to mix well.

Maybe the next GH game will not offer anything new in the instrument department, with the main focus being on a cheaper solus version. If they keep releasing new plastic tat EVERY year then even the hardcore are going to give up, I'm sure

This is why I'm so disappointed by what the Wii is becoming. Instead of letting us do exciting things we likely never or indeed could never do because they're either stupidly dangerous or impossible, like fly jet fighters and wage war across alien worlds and leap from rooftop to rooftop or drive a touring car around Brands Hatch, or get into a gunfight with the police, or fight bears with a sword (you have the sword, not the bear)... it's letting us pretend to cook or brush our dog or go bowling or ANY OTHER NUMBER OF THINGS THAT FOR LOADS LESS MONEY YOU CAN GO AND DO FOR REAL.

Honestly, it's like the Yard Work Simulator in the Simpsons.

If you want to be a DJ, there's plenty of software or equipment you can buy to do it for real. And arguably yes, you could just go and start a terrible garage band with your mates.

I've already done the band thing and I'm not interested in doing it again. I'm 26. what's the average age of a gamer, again? I find it hard to believe that Guitar Hero is stifling creativity in young people who have a passion for music.

SEE ALSO: FIFA.

There's having a kickaround in the park with your mates/kids, and then there's scoring a winner for England at Wembley.

I don't deny there's the 'doing things bigger and better than you could in real life' aspect of some games, but it's the Sims-like simulation of utterly mundane tasks that I see as the problem.

Yes, I could go ride my bike down the street at 100mph but I'd either end up dead or in jail. So I happily play SBK08 instead.

But why would I sit pretending to chop pretend vegetables and stirring fake stew when I could go and make myself a REAL feast? And likewise, why play in pretend venues for a pretend audience when I could just throw a house party and DJ for that, for REAL?

I agree with your point with the mundane stuff, but I don't ever think I'd be able to DJ at the O2 Arena in front of 50,000 people (or whatever).

Plus I don't have any friends to invite round.

Bah...I refuse to purchase any of these games until one comes with a Derek Smalls Edition double necked bass.

I've also had a band, and i prefer guitar hero really. No need to drink tea or orange juice every time after rehearsals. The tinnitus remained though

So they're working on three games? They must be busy.

I wonder if Turn 10 are going to take over Gotham duties.

mine was legendary in terms of shittyness.

For example, our first concert was in my high school on a Monday. We were formed the week before. Our set consisted of:

1- Roots Bloody Roots (cover)
2- As one (original)
3- Bro Hymn tribute
4- Our guitarrist soloing
5- Roots Bloody Roots (repeat cover)
3- Bro hymn tribute (repeat cover)

Our song was made the night before the concert so we could have something ours to play. It was badly rehearsed and i barely remembered the lyrics. The drummer was the one with the most glaring funny mistakes. the stage was made of desks put together. I threw daisies at the audience while growling ROOTS BLOODY ROOTS. One of our guitarrists was such a nerd, he dressed like one, but he had a fuckin BC RICH, the one with horns and everything, like Cradle of Filth and similar bands use.

I have the recording of that concert in a safe.

nah.

I've been tempted to put that on youtube. I'm embarassed by it, but the bassist is way more embarassed nowadays, since he dyed his hair blue and put on an hawaian shirt for the concert. I might do it just to piss him off.

I keep trying to find a cheap copy of Keyboardmania for the PS2 to see how difficult it would be in comparison to Guitar Freaks/Drummania but it still fetches quite a bit unfortunately.

There was also Beatmania Da Da Da! for a different kind of keyboard game...

To be honest I don't know what the Mario Kart one is all about, but my mate told me 6 months ago they're working on a James Bond racer and The Club 2.

They'll certainly run out of songs that I give a monkeys about. I'd buy a George Thorogood pack though.

Bah...I refuse to purchase any of these games until one comes with a Derek Smalls Edition double necked bass.

I think the double neck looks shit and pointless really, the wooden one looks like a proper guitar and lovely, but its daft money. If I could spare it I would (as in I have 50k in savings) but I havent so No I'll have to dream. Although if they need a review of the product I'd love to try it out and keep it. Did you hear that magic wooden guitar makers, I'll give it 10/10 if you let me do licks on your faux pas guitar.
