So much so, I let a mate stay with me for 3 months after he pleaded muchos poverty what with being a student to become a pilot.... Even drove to Holland to pick him and his stuff up. Drove him back to mine. As he was studying to be a pilot, he couldn't afford to pay me rent, but offered up the bills (gas, 'leccy, water etc..).

Imagine my surprise, when, last night, he said "Yeah, I'm staying at this B&B, and it's only 28 quid a night, and I'll be there for 12 weeks. And my medical was only 183 quid today.". So for the same time he spent at mine that's the best part of 2400 quid.

MaliA is far from amused and has resolved to not be charitable ever again. Ever.

Fuck people taking advantage of my good nature.

In fairness, the difference between "I am poor and can't afford it" and then "Hey, it's only 2.4k for 12 weeks" is a large jump in credulity. But I'm venting as I;m grumpcross malia atm,

Other way of looking at it, is that because you have been so nice to your mate it has meant that for a really difficult part of his course (where he's got to find accommodation for 12 weeks when short term leases can be a nightmare, with massive deposits and spend loads on medicals and such) he's got the cash to do it.

Yeah, he tone is a bit off, but I suspect if you hadn't put him up, he would be completely fucked by now. Or something.
