What's the best price anyone has seen for the 120Gb HDD for the 360 (either online or in RL)? I want to upgrade mine, but the c. £99 price point is putting me off.

Currently £90 at Argos and at the moment you'll get a £5 voucher for spending over £50. If you can find something else to get at the same time then you get a £10 voucher if you spend over £100.

They were £75 at play.com when I was looking last week. That's the cheapest I found.

The NTRNTIEE says you can get one in-store at Comet for £59.99, but they have stock problems so best call before you step into the rain.

Also,

£70.99 here:

Buy one for £90, collect your voucher and drive. On your way to the customer service desk, buy another using the voucher. Return the drive for refund, then go to your collection desk to pick up the nice discounted one.

Or buy it for £59.99 from Comet.

Can't you take a 20GB one to bits and stick in any large drive you happen to have kicking about?

edit: of course you can: http://www.infobarrel.com/How_to_Upgrad ... Hard_Drive

How do you get your precious saves off the old disk though?

Hmm not sure.
This wiki sort of suggests you can, by making an image of it on your PC first.

Too risky.

I'd rather pay 1,000,000 quids than loose my saves and whorepoints.

Last I looked, you needed a special disk to do this. It has to be a particular make and model, and you have to reflash it with firmware taken from a running 360.

Actually it's less risky because you'd still have them on the old drive and you'd have a backup image on the PC as well :p

Presumably you could borrow someone's transfer cable and use that? I'm not gonna use my transfer cable again, so if anyone else wants to try it they're welcome to it.

Nah, if you're busying opening up drives anyway you can cable them to a PC and bounce the saves through there. The walkthrough video shows you how to do that bit.

If Bill Gates finds out you've done this Eurogamer says he does you dry.

It's a laptop sized drive though. I've had mine open and fiddled with it and it's a piece of piss to swap out, but I don't have a drive small enough to fit. In theory I could rip the adapter out of the casing too and put a normal sized drive on I suppose but that's a bit silly. And it'd involve finding a drive with the connectors in a good place.

For what it's worth, my original launch day 20GB drive is

Seagate model ST920217AS

You have to use one specific model of WD drive for the hack I believe.
