Last week I walked to my local BB to ask if, as I'd heard, they prce-matched with Cex. I can't easily get to Cex without using a bus and all my clients hang around outside so turning up with thirteen Wii games is a bad plan. The guy said they'd price match on trade not cash, which suited me fine, my loot is worth £198. I mentioned how much I was looking to trade in and said I'd be after full-band GH:WT, which they are selling at £150.

Today I went in, different staff on. They went through everything and offerd me a hundred and eight for the same stuff. I produced my list of Cex prices and they said I'd not be able to use that as proof, I'd need a print out from Cex. I suggested they phoned Cex as I might as well trade there if I'm going to go down there. Then they noticed there was a sheet of stickers not in the GH3 box so I returned home, found the stickers and printed each screen off the Cex website for each game I'm looking to trade. I called them back to ensure this would be sufficient hoop-jumping and they are now saying they aren't sure about what the policy is (brilliant) but they think they trade up to a maximum of ninety quid. So I'm now assuming I can trade half today and half tomorrow, which is pathetic. Apparently the manager is in later, so I'd like to have a word with him, just in case he knows himself.

Anyone else had the run-around like this? Or knows the actual policy?

Hmm...

“The pre-owned market will lead the way for us,” he said. “It means we can offer better value than the supermarkets or independents, and customers are able to get rid of games they no longer want for a guaranteed best price on the High Street.

“Pre-owned games is the most important part of the store,” continued George.

“It is crucial that we make sure that people know we give the best trade-in price and
that our pre-owned stock is also cheaper than anywhere else.

“Basically, we are set to give the best value to our customers whilst making maximum margin.”

Most times when I want to trade in at CEX their till seems to not have enough cash, and they say, "Sorry, we're not trading for cash today," hmm. My computer game buying has gone right down however, so I don't do it so much anymore.

Though I did see on their website that they were giving £25 for Spore. "Great!" I thought, and ran down with my copy, not waiting to allow logic to inform me that this was clearly impossible. Yup, when I got there they told me that only unopened shrinkwrap copies were allowed, which sort of defeats the point. Dang DRM.

Gngh. Spore. >:(

Also, might be (but not certainly) off to the pub to watch Nottingham Forest at 5:15 if you fancy it?

Garn, stuck in work until 5:15, then off out drinking with buddies until the wee hours of the morning. Probably meeting them in Rummer. Which pub? We're going round a load so I might bump into you.

Damn you twats and your not-working-fucking-late tonight. It'll be 'excellent' trying to a) get back to the car and then b)getting the fuck out of Cardiff later.

Not me, no. I've only been to Albany a dozen times. Doubt I'll be able to swing round there tonight either - but we'll have to meet up in future. Sorry, gotta rush - kids library is annoyingly busy now.

My friend has pointed out that no screens in Cadiff will be showing anything but the wales match. He's right, and I don't fancy driving to Bristol to watch it. So I am staying in.

Buy quality wine. Get hammered.

Hmm, Wales match eh? Arse. I hate Cardiff match day, going to have to get extra drink to survive this.

Nothing like this existed when I ran them, but we were nowhere near a CEX.

Also, "Your clients?"

Yes, he prostitutes himself out to men aged mainly between 26-34.
