And just chuck sports topics into the main forum?

I've gone for yes.
Some threads have more posts than this entire forum, so I don't see why they shouldn't be moved out.
Every sports related thread should be stickied though. ;)

Also, most of the people likely to vote no won't read this thread. :hat:

You either have a subforum for games, music, cookery, etc, or you have one forum for it all (forum games excluded).

Vote YES on Proposition GET RID OF SHIT SUB FORUMS.

No shit, Sherlock.
The plan is that if this comes out as 'yes', any new threads should be made in the main forum, and we'll see what happens.

They won't be bloody well stickied though. So you can just fight against Shin's tidal wave to keep your sprots on the front page. :)

I'd go for yes, on the condition that we don't end up with 10 or so active football topics at once, as used to be the case on WoS.

I'd go for no, I have a passing interest in F1 and so always have a look in here after a race. I'm sure everyone else will vote yes though so when people make threads I'd just ask them to have the good grace to make it obvious in the thread title that it is about belmball or whatever.

So presumably you'd ask fight for separate forums for games, films, music, pets...

Sadly it seems that we're going to continue to made to feel like lepers for daring to like sports because as we know, everyone who likes sport is a thick violent hooligan skinhead.

For shame Beex.

It's good that you're at least a self-aware violent hooligan skinhead, then.

No, I think sports are a special case because most people are either interested in them or not interested in the slightest and there's a good proportion who fall into "not interested in the slightest". Not really so for games, music and films, pretty much everyone on the forum likes some examples of those. As for pets and things like that they are miscellany and there aren't enough posts for someone who wants to read about pets to bother checking a sub-forum and grouping things together as miscellany makes no sense either as that just becomes the de-facto main forum.

There's 3 active sports threads, there's more posts on virtually everything I gave an example of (2 very active ones on animals for a start) and I don't think the football / F1 crossover is half as big as you think it is.

Of course they might be fuller threads if it wasn't locked away in its own little leper forum of social pariahs.

Yeah, as a regular poster in the sports forum I often forget about it for days at a time.

I come back to find two posts in the F1 thread and three in the football one. Wow.

Jaysus... that vote was massively in favour of getting rid of the sports forum last time I looked... there's been a run on keeping it! Nobody who posts in it seems to like it, do they?

I don't mind if it's brought back into the main forum, but it keeps all the sporty stuff in one handy place so I'm happy with it here.

(you know I wanted it in both places, a main forum with all threads, and then sub fora that are categorised, that way everyone gets what they want.)

I for one have no issues with sprots being posted here *and* in the main forum, but I won't fight about it with the other mods in front of the kids.

Although it would make this place's very existence utterly pointless. If we were getting "Discuss the suspension design of the FW30" posts then that's maybe arguable but a single "F1" thread would somehow flood the main forum to death? Please.

No, the forum should stay. Just because the sports topics are slow burning is no excuse to get rid of this forum. It's nice being able to come back to threads and being able to find them easily when required rather than faff around with the search.

The Chinny vote goes to keeping the forum. Up with the sports forum! It's the British way of doing things.

well I was suggesting the trial to see if it would work out better for sport fans. It all depends on if people post mroe frequently if they were present in the main forum or if they slowly end up on page 3, if the latter we keep this subforum.

It's seeming more and more like it is just a form of persecuting people for daring to have 1 interest that isn't sufficiently nerdy because people are too lazy to skip over a couple of topics they don't like while continuing to subject the rest of us to mounds of topics we don't like in the main forum.

Super.

And certainly hardly excellent.

For shame beex. I wonder how far an attempt to create a "shitty Japanese RPG" sub-forum would get...

Truly, I don't see it as that massive a deal, just that if you want a quick comment on football or whatever, it's in a specific place. Okay, you could argue, why not give everything its own section then, but I'm just not seeing any major problem with having a separate sports section, is all.

Because no-one sees it, and those that do find it easy to forget about it.

We shouldn't have it because there's no benefit to having it except that a few lazy people might not have to skip their eyes over less than a page worth of topics since this board began.

These people apparently outrank the people that want to discuss things on a discussion forum, which doesn't sit terribly well with me.

I reject the "either interested completely or not interested" arguement too, as if "Sport" was one entity. "Oh you like games, you must love MGS 4.... you don't? I thought you liked games".

I could barely give a fig about Rugby, you know how I deal with that? I click on a different thread. Shame people will go out of their way to vote the same courtesy not be extended.

This is the first time I've ventured into the sports forum (nice carpet, not so keen on the curtains). Given that it's clear that sport matters to people , I think it's good that you can have your own space so those of us who do not give a toss who wins the Olympic gold in snipe hunting can carry on enjoying BEEX without being disturbed.

If we were to have a thread about every item on the BBC News website, I would argue the case for a 'The World Today' sub forum. If we all decide to talk endlessly about the 8-bit golden era, a 'retro room' would be justified. I think things are working fine as they are.

Here endeth my first and last post in the sports room.

There's THREE active topics, 4 if you really count Runcle's B+B post of a thread. It's not "Every item on the anything". It's less than a page in the entire time beex has existed. Both your examples have many, many, MANY leagues more topics.

I voted yes, on the principle that (even though I'm not really interested in sport at all, except for F1 and that's now over for a season really) it's no different to having game threads in the forum.

As an example - Dead Space - a game that holds no interest for me whatsoever, currently has it's own thread. Same with Mirror's Edge (although I will give that one a try after seeing a trailer). I just don't read the threads I'm not interested in. Why can't people do the same with sports?

I love it how people who don't read or care about this sub-forum actually get to vote against its existence. It's rather akin to Richard Littlejohn living in Florida but moaning about the state of the UK.

Well you'd allow everyone to vote so that the Mail reading nimbys can state their objections to their main forum being swamped with asylum seeking football topics or something.

I don't mind either way. The F1 topic is easy to find here, it will be on page 30 of the main forum by the time the next interesting thing happens, but that's no big deal.

I'm not a huge fan of sports. I do watch football and vaguely follow Pompey but I think sport warrants it's own place tbh.

Sport to me is like a ham sandwich. Not overly exciting and can be taken or left.

Actually the question is from the other side, the people who DO like to talk about Sport are fed up about being shut away from view where no-one sees like a bunch of outcasts.

No other topic is forced to be dumped out of sigh but apparently sport is.

To be perfectly honest, I've changed my mind, and would like all of Myoptika's posts about Bournemouth/Anderton/Redknapp to be kept in their own little subforum. :p
