I have a friend who is in france for at least 6 months. She really wants to be able to watch BBC new 24 (for the american election).

Does anyone know how she can access the BBC News 24 stream? She doesn't have a tv - just the t'internet.

I presume she needs a proxy? But I don't know much about them...

Cheers!

Can she get BBC World Service on telly? When my wife was in Spain they got this through the standard aerial. It was heavy on news but not quite as repetitive as 24's rolling news.

Not exactly (or even remotely) answering the question, but HTH.

Hmm, were looking into using ssh to use a machine we have in the uk to then forward a port to her local machine that firefox can use as a socks proxy. 8)

Reminds me of this:

(Way for the uploader to spoil the joke with the silly button!)

Oh, and she doesn't have a TV - thanks though. The BBC world service is great though.

You can probably stream world service anywhere though... at a guess.

I'd be interested to know this too (for UK viewing options).
I've been watching CNN and MSNBC on my computer, but they don't have live streams, just clips, and that's what I'll really want on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Supposedly the BBC are going to stream their election special, but I haven't seen that on the actual beeb website..

If things go well I'd also like the option to switch over to Fox, just for a laugh.

I recommend the Rachel Maddow show, it can be downloaded as a video podcast on iTunes. Good way to catch up on interesting bits of the campaign.

OK for completeness this works, but crucially you need ssh access to a machine in the country you need an ip for.

In your terminal:

ssh -D localhost:8080 username@server.in.the.uk

I presume putty can do similar.

then set your browser to use the following socks proxy:

server: localhost
port: 8080

In firefox this is reached by:

Preferences > Advanced > Network >Settings (button)

And it has a bit for 'socks'

Yeah that would be awesome. During the last hurricane MrChris linked to a Batman style video streaming site that had lots of different channels running. Presumably there is something like that hidden somewhere on the internet.

Justin.tv also had quite a few US news network streams when events like the Presidential debates are going on, so should do tomorrow. There's also the option of installing software like TVU Player, if streaming versions aren't enough.

I'm hoping to dip into Fox News, mainly so I can see if they pretend to be surprised by the likely result, after their Fair & Balancedâ„¢ viewer polls have put McCain on about 81% of the vote. Excellent*.

(*Current bookmakers odds of above event not actually being excellent:13/2)

Zattoo might do the track, not sure if it's IP-restricted or anything though.
