I don’t do massive amounts of projects, even so they weren’t particularly hard to make, the most time consuming part was measuring and lining everything up and double checking (I doubt myself a lot) before committing. The tubs were the most expensive part but that’s cos we bought a big load all at once. It feels nice to have some purposefully chosen and matching tubs instead of the higgledy-piggledy variety of tubs we’ve bought or accumulated in piecemeal fashion over the years.

It reminds me of my friend James..he had trained under a master woodworker for a decade as an apprentice. The apprentice was to embark on his masterpiece. the master woodworker said "Son" (for they were related) "you must build a perfect oggleogglebox". The apprentice went away and toiled for a year. That summer, he presented the master woodworker, his father, with the oggleogglebox. He opened the doors on it and a choir of heavenly voices sang out. The master woodworker shook his head.

Another year of toil was for the apprentice. He worked and worked measured twice, cut once, dovetailed, routed, chamfered, and polished. At the end of summer he went up to the master woodworker to show the oggleogglebox. He opened the door on it and the finest wines known to Christendom flowed out. The master woodworker shook his head.

A third year of graft. A third year of toil. At the end of summer, the apprentice approached the woodworker and showed him the third oggleogglebox. He opened the door, and loaves of bread were produced, endlessly. Sufficient to cure the world's hunger twice over. The master woodworker shook his head.

Dispirited and downhearted the apprentice left. He walked slowly along the riverbank holding back tears. He looked at the oggleogglebox in his hands. The third one. He saw his father, the master woodworker, coming toward him. Cocking his arm he hurled the box into the turbulent river. . It bobbed twice, the door opened and the river water flooded in. And, as the third year of hard, bloody, toil began to sink, the master woodworker smiled. As the box disappeared beneath the waves, they both heard the sound: oggle oggle oggle

In place and secured to the wall - it's made a big difference but we still have quite a lot of stuff to go through. But these are all steps in the right direction, progress is being made. We also chucked out a bit of clutter and sold a few bits on the local buy-and-sell facebook group.

I take no credit for that, there's tons of these on social media.

We have fluoro tubes for lighting in the garage and the shed (the long thin ones like they used to have on the ceiling at offices and work buildings), they were already there when we moved in. Every time I try to change a tube I seem to break it somehow - not shattering the glass but just the newly installed one doesn't actually work, I remember this happening at the old house too.

I'm not sure if it's that I'm an oaf or just don't have the knack, or maybe the light fittings were old and cranky already. The most recent one that I attempted and failed was above my nice tub-storage racks so I just took the whole light fitting down and replaced it with an LED batten light - which gives a much nicer and brighter light anyway - so I think I'll go round and gradually replace the others.

As easy as changing a lightbulb.

You can actually buy fluorescent strip shaped LED lights that drop into the existing fittings as a replacement, don't know if they're any good mind.

Yeah, ive got one in my office. Good upgrade but I do miss the strobing and fizzing startup of the original.

We have them at work. They tend to be significantly brighter, so where we used to have 2, you only need one

I left one of the fluoro tubes on the benchtop downstairs and kept thinking 'i should probably put that away properly, but it'll be alright for now'

Predictably, it got knocked off, probably by the cat. it made a real mess with little bits of glass everywhere and the metal end caps popped off and ended up at completely different ends of the room. I was both impressed by the mess one tube could make and how it must have exploded and also annoyed that I then had to clear that shit up.

You missed a treat. Most dumps have a special skip for those and it's great fun lobbing them in

I remember having lightsaber duels with a mate when we found a load of fly-tipped fluorescent tubes. Of course this was back when everything was brilliant and before all the woke pc nonsense about how children shouldn't get shards of glass in their eyes.

It's more the inhaling mercury bit that's a problem.

Tiny, smol dog could not jump up on the sofa on her own without growling at us to be lifted up, so I cut some boards, nailed them together into stairs and upholstered them in some spare carpet. Well happy with these

Is that a 'dog training noise button' on the floor by the door? Our youngest bought a pack of those, and recorded the dog barking so that pressing the button makes the sound of our dog barking. I don't think he understood exactly what the purpose of the buttons was but he had a lot of fun doing it anyway. Also, our dogs are deaf now anyway.

Does it work (as in, does the doggy use it), and what noise/sound does the button make?

You record your own sound. You press and hold the button for five seconds, it gives a beep, and (still holding it) you record your message. Ours simply says ‘go out’ because that’s the phrase we use when taking her to the back garden. After recording you let go of the button press, it beeps again, and your message is stored.

And yes, it took her maybe two days to learn what the button was for and she uses it every time she needs to go out. I know some people have whole floors full of team, but we thought this was the most important. She has free access to her water and food (we put her food out and she chooses when to eat), and all other needs are freely available to her, so this was the only thing she needed help to achieve.

We hung bells on the door, with the thinking that "we won't have to replace any batteries".
