The other one isn’t really that stupid though. Sure, it’s stupid to us because we know it’s the hive, etcetera etcetera. Guess his fight or flight reflex is very much fly into danger

I was super annoyed when Rain ran back to save Andy because at that point he was Corporate Bot 3000 I think. But even so, it's like you're almost out, you've got barely any time and he's a fairly broken robot who at the start of the movie was having a shit 'life' anyway.

Aw come on, they saw a massive row of facehuggers all fresh out the packaging, decided not to go that way, and then…he just runs off in the direction of the creepy sponge wall without even a hint of consulting his companions, who he just leaves behind in this giant creepy ship where his other companion got their face shagged. It was fucking stupid.

Romulus Spoiler but cool thing

Now that it's out digitally, I'm up for watching it again with lowered expectations. Dav, that is kind of cool but I prefer the idea that she drifted for 57 years instead. Especially as this suggests that they got the alien, cloned it up, pissed about with the eggs, got killed and at no point thought to wake up Ripley.

I mean I guess the alien was found first but if they got the Narcissus, why not open it?

Anyway, I'll watch it again soon.

Looks like a cool mug, but I would fully expect it to be destroyed within weeks, bits being chipped off all over the shop.

Owing to the fact that the edges are completely straight on a mug that should show some variation to the relief cut, I’d assume what you’d actually receive is a standard mug with that image printed onto it.

Apparently the Blu Ray of Romulus fixes the terrible fake Ash CGI. I'll be giving the film a first rewatch soon. I just need to reset my expectations to 'very low.'

It's on Disney+ now. I wonder if that's the fixed version.

I watched this again, last night and enjoyed it more. Largely.
I bought into the characters more and their motivations
It’s very good.
But it’s still trying too hard in the last 20 mins. It’s like Alvarez is trying to reference every bloody Alien movie.

Even expecting that CGI to be bad, watching it tonight it's not that bad.

Still got 40 minutes or so left though as Helen was falling asleep. Maybe that's where it gets really bad?

So far, to me it's the T2 to Aliens' Terminator. Quite enjoying it, apart from some bad audio/video FX syncing and

I don't buy it either. But they do mention it in the movie.

It could actually be explained by the passage of time, too, to be fair.

Like, in Alien, the egg and facehugger that got Kane was presumably sitting dormant for an undetermined length of time before Kane showed up.
In Aliens, we don't really see how quickly the burst happens, except for the one female colonist that waits to pop until the Marines show up -- so it could be a combination of time + proximity.
In Alien 3, we don't see any "standard" bursts -- just the dog/ox, which could be different anyway from the physiology, and Ripley which might take forever because it was a Queen.
In Resurrection (it's been ages since I've seen it) but I think we only see Purvis pop, and he was in a cryosleep chamber for a while so that could slow it down.

Aliens suggests they can actually sit dormant to an extent, because that colonist was likely there for quite some time.

I think they specifically talk about cryosleep affecting Purvis.

Teaser trailer for the TV show has come out. Just an Alien in an abandoned ship heading into Earth's atmosphere or whatever.

I've got very low expectations as the early word on the show was that it was going to be about the company and inequality within it or whatever. Well that and the fact that there hasn't been a good alien film in decades. But I'll give it a go.

Also, some guy has done a fan edit of Aliens that fixes a bunch of the sketchier effects. Not sure it is necessary but I've got the link. PM me if you want it. I think it's meant to be pretty good. And if you can't stand the sped up people in the Bishop knife scene then this might be for you.

The premise of the upcoming show intrigues me. It's (apparently) set two years before the events of Alien, so I can only assume that


But this will just raise lots more questions.

Also, sketchier effects? Apart from the sped up people you mentioned (which I really have to look out for) and the member of the crew peeking out over the colony when the APC is moving, I can't really think of anything in the film that I'd call sketchy?!

Interesting comparison of the 'fixes' to the Rook CGI on the Alien Romulus Blu-ray release.

It's definitely better than the original release, but it still looks really off. The mouth movements especially.

He still looks like a ventriloquist's dummy though...which I find amusing, so I'm not fussed (never did quite understand all the shade thrown towards the original CGI though).

Excitingly, the Alien3 Legacy Cut is now out. It's a fan edit but the guy has apparently fixed a lot of the issues with the film. I'm going to watch it tonight. I'm really hoping it improves things. For me, Alien3 is a 10/10 film up until the maze chase nonsense at the end. If they can make that look better (especially the alien itself) I'll be thrilled.

Predator isn't Aliens, but the trailer for Predator Badlands ties them ever closer together. I can't decide if I'm looking forward to it or not.

Trailer for the upcoming tv series looks good

I watched a little bit of that (I'm very spoiler averse) and I'm already worrying that it'll be like Westworld. As in initially good and then awful. Trying to keep an open mind though.

Also, I do worry about pacing. TV shows tend to be full of filler.

Watched Alien Romulus this weekend, it was pretty good I thought.

The quality of the Rook scenes fluctuates on the streamed version I watched.

I've watched it twice and I think that'll be it forever. It is to Alien what Evil Dead 2013 was to Evil Dead. Same director btw. Full of paper thin characters that don't matter. A bit of violence to make it seem raw but none of it ultimately makes you feel anything. I didn't care if any of them lived.

It felt like a remix of Alien/Aliens/Resurrection with all the unwanted black goo nonsense from Prometheus. I'm gutted that the director is getting a sequel to it. He doesn't know how to make a compelling film.
