I don't care about the footy scores. What I care about is the music that the bloke had in the background while he was reading them out. It was a sort of jaunty theme that could easy be from any montage in a BBC football show (sort of not unlike the cricket music: soul limbo).

Anybody know the name of the track I'm thinking of? :(

It was considerably better than the next proper playlist track. (Rehab)

Sorry, nope. Thanks though. :)

The only other thing I can think of is that it's mostly played by a brass band.

If they have it on listen again try and snatch a recording of it and someone with shazam or similar will be able to help you

Aye, but you can't LA to Rock and Roll Football as it's primarily just music with just the scores announced regularly. RnRF has the RnRF sports podcast instead. I've grabbed that and I'm skipping through it, but I'm not sure if there's going to be recap of the scores (and they don't tend to have the backing tracks on the special podcasts).

Edit - Just listened to it all. Wasn't there.

I forgot to wake up last week (I know, the whole week!), but I got up in time to record the radio show this week!

Here is the football scores bit:

Can anybody identify this?

Resurrecting this thread.

Can anyone work out the song I'm thinking of. I think it's by a footballing band like New Order or The Lightning Seeds or The Farm or some band like that.

The start of it goes oooh ooooh ooh eh uh, oooh ooh eh uh (maybe a female voice?)

Any ideas at all from this rubbish description? It's really annoying me!

Thanks

Neither of those, sorry I should have made it more clear the person doing the oohs is possibly a female voice, but the singer of the band is almost certainly male.

a very much late 80s early electronic rock feel to it. I thought it might be Life of Riley by the Lightning Seeds, Blue Monday by New Order, so it's that sort of thing, but obviously not those songs.

The first few seconds of the song are the oooh bit, then I think more instruments come in before the singing starts 20 seconds later.

Sounds a bit like the start of Pompeii by Bastille.

Sorry missed this earlier, it's got the oohs, but they sound male to me, and there is no long instrumental bit (which is over a minute on Temptation!)

I was also completely wrong about the year, so sorry about that.

Are you really sure it's not Life of Riley? Because it fits quite well.

I was adamant it was, until I heard the intro.

I remember Life of Riley being used by Match of the Day for the goal of the week/month/whatever compilation back in the 90s

Also bear in mind that the BBC have a very good sound department that can edit/remix songs, so they are not often using the exact same 'version' that you'd hear on an album/single.
