I’ve seen a lot of press recently about veganism (I still won’t cut out meat but I am cutting down) and there are whole new world of vegan ‘meat free’ alternatives in the supermarkets. Personally I’m not a fan - the processed nature of ‘plant based kebab meat’ was just too artificial (but I needed to try it) but I am making an effort to eat more healthily. I mean, I have salad with my pizza now.

I think January is the worse time to make big changes like this. We should do them in March, at the beginning of spring.

It's a leap year, so take a leap on 29th February.

I like how the trend is making restaurants improve their vegetarian options. I'm increasingly trying these whenever I go out, and being pleasently surprised. Burgers in particular have improved immensely, and some really get the texture right. Shame they can't (yet) reproduced the juices but give it time.

Subway have started doing vegan meatballs (and vegan cheese) and I can't tell the difference between them and the regular ones, so I think I'll be having them more often. The vegan patties they already did are pretty good too, but they're not always available in my local branch.

I think "commercial" will get better results on Giphy.

I do Veganuary each year, and then try to keep reducing my meat intake throughout the year, but never do particularly well.

We do always have vegan burgers at home though, as they’re pretty good. Loads of places are improving their menus by going for greater choices for veggies and vegans. I went to Brewdog at lunch and their menu is 50% vegetarian friendly, with several good vegan options. MeatMission/Market are decent too.

I think there are plenty of good reasons to cut down on meant intake, from health to environmental impact, but equally I still eat terribly so am not going to go the Annoying Moral Superiority Vegan route cliche thing.

I also couldn't tell the difference, although I didn't have vegan cheese.

Just in case you didn't realise, going by nutritional value alone the meat ones have more fat (16.2g compared to 12.3g) but other than that the meatless ones come out worse on each other count, especially salt. This is also true of Greggs Vegan Sausage Roll.

I think a lot of people make the mistake of assuming that vegan food is automatically healthy anyway; one could live off chips and as long as they're fried in sunflower oil, you'd be vegan. Not exactly going to do you any favours though.

I will never forget the muppet on Kov's facebook (sorry dude) who told me he got healthier when he started eating "vegan food" though. Through a process of elimination I realised that he meant vegetables.

I watched the netflix documentary and was impressed, but luckily it all turned out to be the usual one-sided argument, so I could carry on eating burgers regardless.

It's not something I'd actually given much thought to, so I appreciate the info. As I get older, I'm finding more foods disagreeing with me, particularly meat, so I've been trying the vegan stuff out of curiosity more than anything.

I eat what I'm given. Meat, veg, quorn, fungus, small rocks, whatever. As long as I don't have to cook, it's all good with me.

Funny, Gaz follows the same diet.

Linda McCartney burgers/sausages are pretty good.

If you are doing it to be healthy, you should just be eating more fruit/veg/legumes etc, processed vegan food can be pretty similar to processed non-vegan food nutrition-wise.

From my experience, my farts smell better on a vegan diet than on a meat one.

Mushrooms are disgusting unless you cook them properly (which is roasted for a couple of hours with soy sauce, garlic and rosemary).

Only on her birthday, which is sometime around now amusingly. (If anyone witnesses Gaz walking funny you know why!)

I've been pescatarian for over a year now, but my diet is 80% veggie really.

Cut out processed meats as soon as I had my heart attack and gradually just went off meat in general over the last few years.

It's good to see more fast food outlets offering veggie/vegan options. For me anyway
