Hello! My toaster broke today, so I need to buy a new one. I’ll have a look in the January sales, but I wondered if anyone had any advice on a toaster that toasts a whole slice of bread (rather than only the bottom 2/3rds) and toasts evenly, rather than in alternating burnt and ‘still just bread’ stripes?

I know the Dualities ones are supposed to be good, but the ya re out of my price range, so I wondered if there was a mess aspirational toaster that just toasted bread in an even and competent way? I guess £45 or under would be about right?

EDIT: four slice models, please!

Either you want good toast, or you don't. Be prepared to pay and take a little longer doing things.

Every other problem aside, that doesn’t even look like it toasts evenly :D

Haven’t you got a grill in your oven? I’d use that for a bit. Grilled toast is aces, especially when you can bing a load of cheese on top and watch it bubble away.

I don’t have an oven, Sat :D

I need something that I can toast and pack out of sight and that’s quick (no preheating, etc) because I have to make quick toddler toast every morning, and my kitchen is the worldysmallest.

We have this one in a different colour. It’s got bread slots wide enough to put slices in sideways for perfect even brown.

I don’t think the $300 single slice wonky toasting box had a bagel function, either.

I can assure you that the bagel I toasted yesterday morning was lovely.

I'm demanding a bagel function in my next toaster. Bagels aren't right in a normal toaster.

What is a bagel function? I used to have a toaster with a rack that used to pop up above the slots, was that it? I didn’t ever use that, but I like my bagels properly toasted. Not for too long, but definitely in two halves in the main slots.

It heats one side far more than the other.

Ah! That’s clever. I think. Though I’m not sure which side would be the one you toasted more? I sometimes just stick bagels in the George Foreman grill. Is that awful?

Anyway, crumpets (Warburtons) > bagels, here. I have bagels maybe twice a year, but crumpets are always in the freezer.

(Take three Warburtons crumpets out of the freezer, smash them on the counter until they separate, toast them on highest setting, toast them again on highest until you smell faint burning. You want them slightly charred on the outside and springy soft in the middle (perfect, because they were frozen). Butter.

It's certainly an option...
