If, like me, you enjoyed Batman: Arkham Asylum, then you'll be looking forward to Arkham City!

Some screenshots came out today and there's rumours of a possible multiplayer.

I'm excited!

Joker thugs. Again? Why can't we have Penguin thugs? Dutched. In a submarine.

I just hope half of the cheevos aren't locked up in dull, nigh on impossible challenge rooms again this time. Other than that, I thought the game itself was great. Also, I could do without multiplayer either - just give us a good campaign again.

I'd like to see a multiplayer mode where one person controls the Batman and the other person controls entire gangs of goons in some sort of tactical overview mode.

The 2nd player would be controlling robin in a thong.

Hmm.. not many gameplay screenshots in that little lot. Still, if it's as good as the first one, I'll be getting it anyway. Not fussed about multiplayer either.

Genuine LOL @Dimrill.

I reckon the gameplay will be exactly the same as the last game (which isn't such a bad thing!) From one of the screenshots, it does look like he's got a new gadget though.

I didn't mind the challenge room cheevos in the last game however, I hope there's no multiplayer achievements... I don't like those.

I didn't mind, like, the first two. Then I just wasn't good enough and didn't see myself ever being good enough to get the rest. :'( It wasn't even a case of "bah, this is going to take a long tedious grind". I genuinely wasn't good enough at the combat.

This sounds great:

Joying Stiq wrote:
In the latest issue of the UK's PSM3 magazine, Batman: Arkham City director Sefton Hill outlined an upgrade to Batman's "Detective Mode" designed to help him extract information. Batman will now be able to scan a criminal database to find likely informants among henchmen, and then interrogate them to get what he needs -- like extra Riddler clues.

"The Riddler continues to taunt the Dark Knight with mind-bending puzzles and exploration challenges," Hill said, "but the location of his biggest secrets are known only to him and people he's told. Rather than unlocking their locations using maps, Batman will be able to scan a gang of thugs to find a potential informant."

:this:

The whole exclusive pre order items really is annoying. I want everything to do with this game but I shouldn't have to buy 6 copies of it.

Hopefully they'll make the extras available as DLC later down the line but I'm not massively confident they will.

Not in this case with game.co.uk having the Robin character & Tesco the Joker Character & challenge maps

I'm hoping for them to be released on DLC

This is a definite get for me, although maybe I'll leave it until Xmas as an easy present for family to buy me because there's a LOT of good stuff out/about to come out and I'm not fussy which I play first. Multiplayer seems an unnecessary add-on but then AC:Brotherhood did too and surprised me how much I liked it, so I'll reserve judgement while nonetheless going in with low expectations.

Also, the combat does get easier with practice; I gave up on the combat challenge achievements, then spent a few hours one night much later on mucking about in them and gradually got a feel for it, to the point where I could go back and get them with only moderate frustration.

I don't know, I just read above that Lewie said there might be and nobody has since posted to the contrary. I should probably read stuff about games I plan to buy, but it takes some of the surprise away. ;)

Although on reflection, the pre-orders are so hilariously broken for this one (extra challenge rooms from one retailer, different skins from another, different playable characters (Robin and the Joker) from a third and fourth) that I might just sit it out and wait for DLC to emerge that harmonises them, or a GOTY edition with the actual entire game in.

Although the statue looks kinda cool.

It's a shame that they have delayed the PC version (again (presumably for marketing/publisher reasons). I was looking forward to playing this soon.

And yeah, the DLC is a bloody joke, at least when they eventually release the PC version I'll be able to acquire all the bonus costumes.

On reflection, I'm mad enough about it to delay purchasing until later. It's not like there's a shortage of games this time of year.

I'm sitting this one out until cheaply cheaps. I loved the first, but much like Ass Creed, this is more of the same, refined and bigger. I want more, but not at full price and not when I have too much other stuff to play as it is!

The DLC and pre ordered stuff is annoying as hell. I want the whole lot because of my OCD nature but its going to work out expensive.

I've already got the statue edition on order.

I'll probably get it straight off (as I don't buy many full-price games a year) and just shop around for the best price, rather than debate of which DLC I want as I don't particularly care. That review is promising though.. I was wondering if Rocksteady would have been able to follow Arkham Asylum and it sounds like they have.

Sounds pretty great. I loved the first one, it looks to be massive but I'm still playing Rage atm, if i've had enough of it by Friday I'll pick it up trading in rage... may just get to blockbuster early on Friday and rent it instead.

Finding this very difficult to stick to.

There's some clarity around the pre-order shenanigans here and here.

Quote:
As we noted earlier, all pre-order "exclusive" DLC for Batman: Arkham City will be made available for purchase after release. GameStop has inadvertently confirmed this, revealing the dates and prices for three upcoming DLC packs. The first pack will be the Nightwing character pack, available on November 1st for $6.99 (560 Microsoft Points).

Nightwing will feature his own "unique gadgets and special moves," and is playable in all challenge maps in the game. The DLC includes two additional challenge maps: Wayne Manor and Main Hall. The pack also contains a bonus Animated Series Nightwing character skin.

The next release will be the Robin character pack, available on November 12th, also for $6.99. This add-on will be available for free with pre-orders at Best Buy.
...
According to GameStop, the Skins pack will be available on December 6th for $4.99 (400 Microsoft Points).
Note that the playable Catwoman character comes with all new versions of the game, it's the "didn't buy the game preowned" bonus.

So, if we assume I don't care about skins, and as the Nightwing character appears to not be a pre-order bonus anywhere, this means that Game is the logical place to pre-order it. As they'll throw the Robin character and the challenge rooms, which I might end up buying anyway. However, according to this Sainsbury's will sell the bare-bones game for £30.49 or Tesco will do it for £30 if you spend £40 on groceries, meaning you could buy the Robin and Nightwing packs as DLC and still pay less than Game (who want £42.99 online, and I'll check the in-store price later).

Why is this so bloody difficult!

I can only assume they'll be slipping a new code in all the boxes they get as tradein? Bizarre.

Warner Brothers agrees to give them a load of codes for preowned copies, in return, Gamestop heavily promotes their game in store, I imagine.

Anyone remember how (Gamestop owned) Game Informer got the exclusive on the announcement of this game (and many others)?
