No, it's to make room for more cameras.

Also whoever moved my sofa (a chesterfield coincidentally) in the house was a wizard, it won't fit out of the living room door leading to the front door and is currently sat in my back garden as it won't go down the side of the house either. Going to have to ask neighbour if we can remove fence panels.

Check to see if the arms come off it. Tip it on its back and see if there are zips in the bottom cover near the ends. If there are, there are probably two or three bolts holding the arms on to the main body. Remove the nuts from the bolts and the arms can be removed, making it much easier to move.

If there are no zips, call David Copperfield. Or Uri Geller.

Does it have legs? Sometimes legs or castors can unscrew easily and those extra few inches can really help getting it through a door.

Nope not moving, dull answer is that BFFs uncle is selling the van he bought to move house with soon and offered to take anything we wanted down to the dump while he still had it. We took the piss.
I got rid of a broken 42 inch CRT TV, broken fridge freezer, broken microwave, two old beds and other assorted junk. (our council have retarded elf and safey rules when it comes to skips)
Sofa should go on wednesday, I'm getting a 7ft bean bag sofa to go in it's place.

fake edit: There are no zips (edit: or legs). "set it on fire or use a chainsaw because the fackin' thing ain't going through this fackin door" quoth the fellow with a van.

If it's only a few inches out, would it help to take the door out of the door frame?

Man alive, I've been having fun with a customer today. To begin with, I was feeling pretty bad for the guy as even I thought we were dicking him about a bit with our service, but he's starting to get a bit silly now.

We're a software company that very occasionally sells computers to customers if they just want to go to one place for everything, and this guy has a 6-month old HP from us where the SMART function is flashing up an imminent hard disk failure. We've arranged for an HP engineer to go out and sort it, but this was an outrage as far as he was concerned as he "doesn't want some stranger from HP in his home".

We did at one point offer to send him one of our test machines pre-prepared with all his software and files set up as a temporary measure whilst he sent his machine back for us to deal with, but this was totally unacceptable too as he "wasn't going to start mucking about with the post office". Instead he was demanding that we prepare a replacement machine for him here, send someone from our company the 270 miles to his house to swap the machines over, bring his machine back to our office, get it sorted here with HP, then send someone from our place back there to swap them over again once it had been fixed.

Now I've just got off the phone to him after offering to remote into the PC and make a last ditch check that we've backed up all his files before the engineer arrives tomorrow. Now, to be fair, I did tell him earlier to shut the machine down for now until further notice, but he's just gone utterly spare at me for suggesting he might want to turn it back on again so I can check everything's backed up. He's furious that he now has to, and I quote, "muck about pushing buttons". This being the 'power' button, which I need him to push once. On a computer in his home. At some point between now and tomorrow afternoon.

Ho hum.

UPVc window panels come out alarmingly easy. That's how we get our sofas in and out of our lounge.

Taking door off won't help because there is a radiator in the way. There is also paint missing off said radiator, I am now thinking that this may in someway be connected. It's outside, if we can't get the panels up then it's going to be a comfy new patio set.

Heh, his major complaint at having to switch his computer back on again was that "surely the HP engineer will check all my files are backed up and do this for me?" I pointed out that the HP engineer - this being the 'stranger' he was moaning about allowing into his home earlier - would not be allowed to go through all his personal files as that would be a data security issue. And so we then came to the legendary "pushing buttons" complaint. It was incredibly difficult to remove all traces of sarcasm or exasperation in my voice as I tried to say "The computer is in your home right? You'll be going back there tonight at some point, yes? Surely you can press the power button once at some point over the course of the evening?". Far too much effort apparently. We should be doing this all for him.

I almost volunteered to go there myself, but I fear in addition to swapping out the hard drive I'd also be expected to feed him, dress him and wipe his arse for him.

Some sort of garden based sofa-trebuchet, coupled with a large net in a nearby park, is clearly your only remaining option.

Once upon a time I worked in a little indie PC repair shop. We had a customer come in once wanting us to repair his PC as it had died. He insisted he had to be present whilst we performed the repair. We pointed out we didn't know exactly when we'd get round to it as there was a queue, plus the repairs were done in our lab out back which we didn't allow customers in. He offered to pay quite a lot more than the going rate if we'd let him jump the queue and sit out back with the person doing the repair. When we pressed him on this, all he'd say was that he had 'sensitive photos' on there he didn't want people going through.

And at that point I suggested he go somewhere else. I nearly called the police and still sometimes wonder if I should have... but then it may have been nothing I guess.

Probably just something very personal, rather than outright illegal. Surely you'd be less bloody obvious about it otherwise. Or just fry the PC.

If not, then he'll have been found out by now anyway, on account of being completely daft about whatever it is he's up to.

Lies told by Apple #2344 - Superdrives aren't super.

I replaced one of the superdrives in my Mac Pro today as both have ceased to burn despite having had nearly no use (cleaned them). Got hold an LG for a fraction of the price of the official drive. Well fuck me if it isn't faster, quieter and generally far better.

Tempted to replace the second drive except it reads fine and apparently I might have issues booting from DVD from a non official drive.

I don't think much of mine either, it doesn't want to burn anything other than basic CD-Rs, and is noisy and slow at that. Guess it's knackered.

Feedback from the CEO: he likes me, although recognised I was quite nervous during the interview (do they get any easier?), and thinks I'll fit in well. But I'll have to wait 'till next week to hear a final yes/no as the two people hiring me are both on holiday.

My competency hasn't been questioned even once so far, which is a nice confidence boost, since I naturally think of everything I produce as being flawed shite. Maybe they want flawed shite.

Hah. Indeed.

I'm fine with talking about the technical stuff, but I'm not one to particularly delve into myself as a person, so haven't the faintest idea of who I really am. The CEO starting off with ‘So, tell me your life story’ made me more than a tad uncomfortable.

I'll relax after five minutes or so, but I still struggle with the questions about me as a person. Necessary, but I hate them.

I got the job though, and I reckon you will too.
I took a tip from Grim... about putting something random as a skill at the end of the CV - this worked for me too, so cheers.
