Actually, Tweed fabric/yarn is absolutely wonderful, and a proper Harris Tweed is a thing of beauty. I have some pretty lovely tweed yarns which I am saving for something extra special one day.

I'd like to learn how to spin a proper tweed yarn, but you really need a wheel rather than spindle for that for it to be effective.

sinister agent, congratulations on never having to see the people who have made your working life a living hell ever again.

Personally I would level with your friend as suggested and work there for the short term (unless you decide to stay) if only to have your newest reference a good one.

Smart <> Cool, I think you'll find. What are you doing at the weekend? Teaching a class on pottery? Going to an antiques fair? Something else deeply uncool?

Dr Gaywood thinks you're a dweeb, you're that uncool.

I went to the Surrey County Show on Monday, and bought a hand-made side table and some organic sloe gin. A tweed jacket would have suited me perfectly.

I thought I'd pick up a copy of Retro Gamer today, after several months of avoiding it due to a lull in the writing, after seeing an article on Knightmare. Turned out it was just a general article on Knightmare the TV show rather than the acebest Tony Crowther Amiga/ST game. The article is dishwater dull with Crowther's game having two measly paragraphs basically saying 'Tony Crowther did a game dontchaknow'...tch. What a waste. And the magazine hasn't moved on any I see either. Very disappointing.

I wonder what happened to Tony Crowther. Any fans in here of his games?

You just know that most of the "hostesses" have probably had their norks out in a top shelf magazine or three.

I found the perfect tweed jacket at a classic car jumble, but, sadly, it was slightly too short in the arms and narrow across the shoulders. It felt like a cross between s romcom and a Greek tragedy.

In related "perfect sartorial elegance" news, I'm still weeping about the perfect hat I found in a pub, only for it to be claimed by its rightful owner.

Might be interesting. C+VG had a good article on it in one edition. Possible December 1987? Had Thundercats on the cover IIRC.

I had Knightmare for the CPC. I remember you had to use the spade to get out of the first room, but I hardly got anywhere after that :(

Denial.

Meanwhile in sports news, due to FIFA corruption England are to boycott the World Cup. Keen to make political capital, Alex Salmond has pointed out that Scotland have been boycotting the World Cup since 1990.

To be honest, I think he's been extremely restrained. Church bell ringing is probably the most annoying sound in the entire world. It wouldn't be so bad if anyone could actually do the damned things in time...

I think she was using an Oxford Comma (insert Vampire Weekend joke). As in the third child is 7 and autistic, not there are three children and the 4th is autistic.

I could, however, be completely wrong.

I got the wireless microphone working last night. The laptop was turned off, as was the router (as it is broken, still) and it connected straight away. So lord knows what is going on there. We played Rock Band a bit and it was fun.

Sweet joy. Finally have my external Blu-Ray writer replacement back. The old model being 2 years old they couldn't do a direct replacement so now I have a super pimped new model.

Bad news is that I have about 15 discs to write.

Ebuyer have them fairly cheap. I bought one and whacked it in the cupboard as an emergency burner as it was jolly inconvenient when both the Superdrives in the Mac refused to burn and the Blu-Ray was away being looked at.

BTW, the cost of Blu-Ray burners has reduced enormously. My external cost about 200 sovs 2 years ago and now the same (but updated) unit is under £100. Ironically I have never watched a movie on it. I back all the video stuff up to Blu-Ray and hard disk.

Went uptown at lunch. In both the ecntral shopping arcades, they had those fish that nibble on your feet, but no signs of any customers. Lots of tourists made getting from A to B slower than usual.

Had a look in Gamestation. They have some XBox360 games for a fiver, but I don't know if I want FIFA 10 and Crackdown. Second hand Fallout New Vegas was £12.99 or two second hand games for £20. In the end I went to the bookshop and spent my £15.99 on 3 books by Jack Campbell; Fearless;Dauntless;and Courageous, figuring I'd get more hours out of them than more games for an XBox that rarely gets turned on. I just wish I had a Kindle, so I could hide the embarressment of reading Sci-Fi. I'm hoping that Investment Director behind me doesn't ask, as she's nice and I want to appear well cool and stuff.

Anyways, still plugging away at these business cards and no indication if they want me or not next week. but I've to force the issue anyway, as I've got more Citizen's Advice Bureau stuff to do for three days next week.

Do the £5.99 per month Lovefilm rental thing that I did then. Perfect for my current gaming usage.

See bargain thread for details.

When I had this done on a Sunday the shop was empty then so the chap gave us an extra ten minutes for free.

It was ace. I'm going back again this weekend.
