A friend wants to rip some audio from a youtube video. God knows why.

Is there a free/legal/moral way of downloading them and converting them to MP3 that someone on the low end of the PC literacy scale can do with ease? I tried googling and got a bunch of sites that look terrible...

Edit: I know there are firefox extensions that do this, but he is an IE user.

I used to use Audacity's loop-back feature and record it that way. Can't get it to work in Vista though, and it would only come out in mono.

audio hijack on the mac will record any sound your pc makes. (it comes in free and pro form) There may be a PC version. I dunno. Still may be useful in googling anyhow,

Goldwave audio editor uses the same bunch of codec magics that Windows does.

This means that if you load up any movie file in it, you'll be presented with the audio as if you just loaded an mp3 or a wav. Simply save as mp3*, and you're done.

(you'll have to set up mp3 saving first. It doesn't come with that capability but it does come with very simple instructions for doing so)
