I thought it would be interesting to comment on this since i saw a comment from romanista somewhere on there (there's also a comment from mine on GH:world tour).

It's kind of good that Super smash Bros got a surprisingly low stand while other games that were quite underrated, like Dead Space and Saints Row 2 (didn't play any of those yet, but i'm basing this opinion on sources that i trust), got good positions.

And Guitar Hero took a beating from Rock Band. Serves activision right for having shit track lists.

I've got a comment there, too, about Little Big Planet.

Seems like a reasonable list, really.

Though is Gears 2 really that good?

Gears 2 bests it's predecessor in every conceivable way. Even Dave was better.

I've opened that page up. Why didn't they just cut and paste Amazon reviews? And God help the poor bastard who had to read all those comments, I bet his brain is dribbling out of his ears.

People do seem prone to defend things to the hilt just because they bought the game and don't want to admit a mistake. I think everyone knows my views on Far Cry 2 after buying that.

Very pleased about Dead Space - thought Eurogamer were somewhat harsh on it by constantly harping on about how it's not original. Just. Fuck. Off.

Chocolate cake is hardly an original concept but you get a really good one and it's clearly fucking great.

Sex is hardly a brand new invention but if you get all the pieces in the correct place it's clearly great fucking.

And of course, one person's idea of the correct place is not necessarily the same as someone else's.

It's reminded me that I probably need to get 'The World Ends With You'. If only for the title frankly, which is excellent, and the J-pop. Mostly the list served to remind me how creaky and old my beloved PC is though, *blub*, even if World of Goo rated pleasingly high. Also, chuffed to hear Braid is coming out on PC.

I thought it was bloody marvelous, not so keen on the multiplayer stuff though.

The free mode and Cops 'n' Crooks are great fun - I'm not so keen on the rest.

The needy emo-friends sucked the fun out of it for me.

Not really, I didn't find the story compelling at all. I hope it's just a taster of better things to come, ala GTA3, as the one city thing is claustrophobic and one dimensional. As per every GTA game I've played, the last area unlocked is a massive disappointment and pain up the arse to be in.

Do what I did: ignore them for so long that they stop calling you.

This also works in real life.

I think I'd agree with that.

With GTA4, I just felt like there was a barrier between me and the game - vehicle handling wasn't fun, on foot was awful, controller lag, terrible, and so on. And this just got worse in multiplayer. Combat wasn't any fun at all, and most of the modes just seemed arbitrary and clunky. If I want a fun racing game, I won't go for racing in GTA. If I want a fun shooter, I won't go for shooting in GTA. If I want a fun team game, I won't go for GTA. Where exactly does it fit in?

What do you play if you want a GTA game?

Saints Row 2. If they hadn't sent me the sodding PS3 version.

Just play the first one and pretend Dimrill's there for an authentic SR2 experience.

SR2 has the 'wildly entertaining' factor that is missing in GTA4, and to some extent San Andreas.

I defy you to say that the bank heist mission was not wildly entertaining. It was probably my gaming moment of 2008.

I didn't find it particulary so. It were a bit easy (Something that could be levelled at the game as a whole to be fair, the police were pretty much entirely ineffectual)

Well that's because you're a gaming genius who finds most things too easy. Obv.

The bank heist in GTAIV? It's good, but very hard, goes on for ages and I can see it being a bit frustrating.

It's nowhere near the nightmare of the Vice City heist mission... you have to do that fucking hard race against Hilary to get him as your getaway driver and what happens? YOU have to drive to the bank, and after the heist you emerge to see him screech up in your getaway car and immediately get shot dead.

Las Venturas was great, though. Otherwise I'm with you.

It makes sense to put most effort into the second island, really. Most people who play it won't get as far as the third one. Make the second island a doozy and it's something for the cazzers to strive for.
