I was given this yesterday. It is a story that I wrote when I was 5½, as is handily recorded on the cover. I thought I'd share it with you all though.

Also, I have worked out bluetooth connection of phone and laptop.

OK.

I type it out here for clarity:

Quote:
New Baby

One day my mum called out I've got a new baby. I ran up stairs and saw my old rocking chair and my dad was fixing it for the new baby. Lonely, no-one talked to me. I wanted food. I wanted my old rocking chair but mummy and daddy would not listen to me. I wanted mummy to listen to me but she would not. I said why won't you listen to me? But she still would not listen to me. I did not feel good. I wanted to do something. I wanted to watch tele but I could not turn it on. So I asked if I could do something but she said no no no no. I wanted to go back home where I live with my nanny and grandad because they say they love me and do not just ignore me and not like me and wish that I was not there. That's why my mummy and daddy do not want me.

I do not remember ever seeing this story of mine before. Aparrently my school caled my grandparents in to say that I was very unhappy and gave them this story that I had written in class, and my Nan sent this story back to my mother, where I had spent a couple of weeks over the summer.

It has a handy illustration.

I like that I drew the pictre with me in it and thought 'hang on - I'm not happy! And drew a big angry sad mouth over my face to correct my mistake. Also, my mother always wore too much mascara. I used to think her eyes looked like spiders.

aww, that's cute and quite sad too. :( And well written for a 5 year old. I was just drawing tanks and soldiers and spiderman when I was 5.

That's a really sad story Mimi. Thanks for sharing it though.

This is me now: :'(

I am impressed by your story though - amazing stuff for a five year old! I likewise was drawing pictures of stuff like hedgehogs with rocket launchers at that age. So yes, as was said, very cute, very impressive and a bit sad.

You're so cute Mimi, and awwwww, big hugs for you.

When I was 5 and the teacher demanded that we write what we did over the weekend, I would just draw a picture of me playing with cars, and put 'I played with my cars', which was a lie. Even then I knew it was a pointless meaningless exercise, and I just put any old nonsense down to satisfy them. Total failure of the school system.

CG didn't feel it was politic to illustrate the words, "I destroyed my enemies."

:this: on both counts.

Wish I'd had the imagination to draw hedgehogs with rocket launchers though.

Also: I can't write that well now, let alone when I was 5.

Holy moses, that's the most depressing thing I've read this week. :'(

I need chocolate to cheer me up. Or cheese. Or both.

I was quite surprsed that I used apostrophes twice, in I've and that's.

I was somewhat ahead of my schoolmates through a large part of my schooldays, but then I plateaued and have been decidedly average ever since.

Incorrect, you are decidedly excellent. The typing does go downhill when drunk though.

My cousin always had to write similar "what I did at the weekend" type stories. One week the teacher gave her book back to her and the comment after the story was just "no pub this weekend?!"

My uncle's great.

My 'What I did at the weekend' stories were always about The Dukes of Hazzard, A-Team or Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em. There's a great one where I've drawn Frank Spencer falling into a vat of tar in his roller skates.

Aww, Mimi. That's one of the saddest, sweetest stories I've ever read. The stark honesty of your feelings is really touching. :(

Have some more hugs.

Can I join in with the :(ness and the hugness? That letter was pretty depressing, but at the same time thoughtful.

You know what the saddest part is? The teacher went through and corrected the spelling and grammar with a red pen. How mercenary is that?
