Does anybody have any clue whatsoever when this is going to drop. It's supposed to be today but there was no sign when I checked about half an hour ago.

Is it a game about hacking wireless networks?

Is that a good sign or what. I so infrequently go on PSN I don't know any of the demos on there. And as I said in the 3F thread I don't appear to be in any way clued up with regard to what's coming out in the next couple of months.

Are we actually getting a demo?

It's up and I'm downloading it now. I didn't check to see if there was a demo, but there are two downloads, one that is essentially the game at 998mb and the other is a 100k download called "Full game unlock" or something. So maybe there is a demo.

I noticed, the other day, that at Chavpub, the gambling machines are run by PCs with wireless cards in them. I further noticed other things.

Are you sure? There is game download and then an extra 'Unlock full game' download.

The only download you see is the full game at £11.99, I assume the other one appears once you buy it.

That doesn't make a lot of sense though.

I searched the entire damn thing. There was one download. It cost £11.99.

Took me less than half an hour to download it at 6:30 this morning. Seems to be a good time to do things. I managed to download WipEout HD, The Last Guy, Mega Man 9 Demo, the Pain Amusement Park update and the big 325MB Pain patch before I left for work at eight.

And played three races in WipEout, the Mega Man 9 demo and Pain.

I actually got into work early.

I needed to be, because UPS might have come to pick up my broken 360. They haven't, yet, but they could have done.

Some people were managing to download it in half an hour last night, while other people like me took 3 hours. Seems like there was some congestion or load mis-balancing somewhere.

We need a spaceshippy race game on the 360. That isn't Fatal Inertia (what a shame about that)

This is the most single player fun I've had on the PS3. Maybe not a big brag but....

Hey, this is fascinating -- it seems that WipeEout HD uses dynamic resolution to maintain 60fps. So, when the action is too hectic to manage 1920x1080x60, rather than drop frames or slow the game down, it scales the resolution then passes it out through the PS3's hardware horizontal upscaler. That analysis has seen it vary between 1920 and 1280 horizontal pixels on a frame-by-frame basis. They say overally it is less visually intrusive than the alternatives.

I think that's damned neat!

Although you do wonder if, in the time it took to code something that clever they couldn't have put the time into optimising it to actually do 60fps...

1920x1080x60 is essentially impossible on today's hardware with the poly counts and texture resolutions we are all used to, and I think most game devs realise it now. How many true native 1080p60 games do we have? RR7, wasn't there one on the 360, is that it?

The differences between 720p and 1080p are pretty marginal at typical viewing distances on TVs smaller than 50" or so anyway. It's a better commercial decision for the devs to make 720p prettier than it is chase 1080p.

I've just started playing gta4 (x-bawks) and I'm actually quite impressed with how they've kept up the viewing distances (flat image/environment map for long distance - low poly model for middle distance - high quality close up). Pleasing sweary too!
